Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is a growing public health issue, exacerbated by the misuse of antibiotics in agriculture, particularly within poultry farming.

In Calabar, poultry farmers often rely on antibiotics to prevent diseases and promote growth in chickens, which contributes to the development of resistant bacteria. When these resistant strains enter the food chain, they pose a significant risk to consumers and the community at large.

We are thrilled to announce that our Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) Club, with funding from DRASA, successfully hosted the “AMR ON THE STREET” project in Calabar metropolis.
This initiative brought together key stakeholders in the poultry sector to discuss the critical issue of AMR.
We shared valuable knowledge on responsible antimicrobial use and its impact on public health.
We educated poultry farmers on AMR risks, alternative disease prevention methods, and proper antibiotic use.

📌Together, we can promote safer farming practices and protect our communities from the dangers of AMR.

Over the weekend, the Antimicrobial Resistance Club of the University of Calabar visited worship centers to create awareness of antimicrobial resistance, as we continue the fight against creating superbugs.

We visited the Channel of Blessings Christian church and Christ the king catholic church,
We seized an opportunity during and after the service/Mass to educate the worshippers on Antimicrobial Resistance and how much damage can be done if it is neglected.

Aside from educating them, we provided them with some material that would aid them spread the word concerning the fight against superbugs.

Together we can raise an army against superbugs.

Earlier today, we had the pleasure of visiting CRID ECO CLUB, an organization deeply committed to combating climate change and ensuring a cleaner Cross River State.

During their sanitation exercise, we took the opportunity to educate them on Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) and its growing threat to public health.

We also provided them with some educational materials to help spread awareness.
