AKPU (FUFU) & GARRI: FERMENTATION IS FOR YOUR HEALTH

Cassava contains natural poisons, which is why it is never eaten raw. Our forefathers understood this wisdom: proper fermentation makes cassava safe and healthy.

When cassava is well fermented (akpu, garri, lafun):
✔ Harmful cyanide is removed
✔ Digestion is easier
✔ Gut health improves
✔ Sugar spikes are reduced

⚠️ Poor or rushed fermentation is dangerous
• Can cause stomach pain and irritation
• May affect the brain and nerves over time
• Can lead to long-term health problems

👉 Garri that is not sour is not better garri — it is not finished.
👉 Akpu must have that fermented smell. No smell, no sour taste? Be careful 🚩

• If you eat a lot of cassava products, do regular health checks
• Food sellers should test garri and akpu before selling
