Let’s compare screen time versus Outside
The screen vs outside problem!
👀Indoor with screens ➡️close-up focus, sitting still, overstimulation.
Outside ➡️distance vision, movement, boredom that turns into imagination. Even 60 minutes a day makes a big difference.

📌Easy ways to get them out more!
1. After-school 1 hour rule: No screens until outdoor play is done.
2. Boredom kits: Ball, chalk, rope , drawing , coloring— let them invent.
3. Weekend nature walk- park, field, even just the compound.
4. Playdates outside- easier when friends are involved.
Outdoor activities can be more beneficial to the child’s eye health and overall wellness.

Children need to check their vision because they don’t always know they can’t see well — and bad vision affects everything: school, sports, and even how they develop.

👀Learning depends on seeing
80% of what kids learn in school comes through their eyes.
If they can’t see the board, read clearly, or focus on books, they’ll struggle even if they’re smart. This is often mistaken for “the child is dull” or “not paying attention.”

👀Catch problems early
Common kid eye issues show up before age 7:
• Refractive errors: Nearsightedness, farsightedness, astigmatism
• Lazy eye (Amblyopia): If one eye is weaker and not treated early, the brain will ignore it permanently
• Eye misalignment (Strabismus / Cross eye): Can cause double vision
• Color blindness: Affects learning with charts, maps, art

The earlier you catch it, the easier it is to treat with glasses, patches, or therapy.

3👀They won’t complain
Kids adapt fast. If everything has always been blurry, they think that’s normal. They won’t say “I can’t see” unless it’s really bad.
Signs parents notice: sitting too close to TV, squinting, headaches, rubbing eyes, poor reading.

👀Prevent accidents
Poor depth perception or blurry vision = more falls, bumps, and trouble in sports/PE.

👀Screen time + genetics
More tablets, phones, and reading up close = more myopia in kids.
Also if parents wear glasses, kids have higher risk and should be checked.

Protect and preserve their vision today 👌🏾👀

A child should do an eye exam before school because a lot of learning happens through the eyes.

If they can’t see clearly, school becomes 10x harder no matter how even if they’re smart and trying their best.

📌80% of learning is visual
Reading, writing on the board, seeing classmates’ faces, using tablets.
If vision is blurry, they’ll miss words, copy wrong, get headaches, and fall behind without anyone knowing why.

📌Early Eyecheck helps catch problems early and treatment / management become easier becuase kids eyes are still developing up to age 7-8. Issues found early respond much better.

👀Bring your children today for a comprehensive eye examination 👌🏾

Still on eyecare edition ! While you use sunscreen products to protect your skin from the sun, do well to also protect your eyes from the sun and have your bluecut photochromic glasses or sunshades with adequate UV protection to avoid the harmful ultraviolet rays from the sun which is not good for the eyes . Don’t forget that prolonged exposure to sunlight can lead to the development of cataract and other eye related conditions. Enquiries : 📞/whatsapp 08134759757.
