GoHealth Enrols Over 22,000 Beneficiaries, Unveils Upgraded Digital Health Platforms

The Gombe State Contributory Healthcare Management Agency (GoHealth) has announced the enrolment of over 22,000 new beneficiaries into its health insurance programmes in July 2026, while unveiling major upgrades to its digital health platforms aimed at improving service delivery and accountability across healthcare facilities in the state.

The achievements were disclosed during the Agency's July 2026 Monthly Coordination Meeting held on Thursday at the Learning Resource Centre, New GRA, Gombe.

Presenting the monthly enrolment report, Head of Enrolment, Musa Maaji Yakubu, revealed that 20,000 poor and vulnerable residents were enrolled under the GoHealth Equity Programme through the Gates Foundation-supported Ex*****on Grant. The enrolment exercise covered all 114 political wards across Gombe State.

The Gates Foundation Grant Focal Person, Pharm. Joy Bako, had stated:

"The Gates Foundation, in partnership with the Gombe State Government through the Gombe State Primary Health Care Development Agency (GSPHCDA) Ex*****on Grant, supported the enrollment of 20,000 vulnerable residents into the State Contributory Healthcare Scheme under the Health Financing component of the Ex*****on Grant."
She added that "milestone reflects the shared commitment of the Gates Foundation, the Gombe State Government, the Gombe State Primary Health Care Development Agency (GSPHCDA), and Gombe State Contributory HealthCare Management Agency (GoHealth) to ensuring that every resident, regardless of socioeconomic status, has access to quality, affordable healthcare. By combining immediate support for vulnerable populations with a sustainable co-financing strategy and continuous expansion of coverage, the initiative demonstrates that no one is left behind on Gombe State's journey towards Universal Health Coverage"

Musa Maaji, the Agency's Head of Enrollment, further disclosed that an additional 1,545 beneficiaries were enrolled under the Global Fund GC7-RSSH Programme during the reporting period. Between June 26 and July 26, the Agency also enrolled 50 principal beneficiaries and 620 dependents under the formal sector programme, alongside 63 informal sector beneficiaries.

The meeting noted that intensified community sensitization campaigns in Funakaye, Akko and Yamaltu Deba Local Government Areas significantly boosted dependent enrolment, with other LGAs encouraged to replicate the strategy.

A major highlight of the meeting was the presentation of newly upgraded GoHealth digital platforms by the Agency's Operations Manager, Dr. Gideon Maspara. He showcased new features scheduled for deployment on the GoHealth Mobile Application, as well as enhancements to the Gombe State Drug Inventory Management System (DIMS).

The Director ICT, Mr. Gidado Musa Biri encouraged participants to provide feedback on the upgraded platforms to support continuous improvement. He also reiterated that GoHealth remains the only State Health Insurance Agency in Nigeria licensed by the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) to conduct National Identification Number (NIN) enrolment.
The monthly coordination meeting brought together departmental heads, Local Government Desk Officers, development partners and programme implementers to review performance, strengthen collaboration and chart strategies for expanding health insurance coverage and improving healthcare service delivery across Gombe State.

GoHealth Enrols Additional 20,000 Vulnerable Residents Through Gates Foundation Partnership

The Gombe State Contributory Healthcare Management Agency (GoHealth) has enrolled an additional 20,000 poor and vulnerable residents under the GoHealth Equity Programme through a strategic partnership with the Gates Foundation, further expanding access to quality healthcare for vulnerable populations across the state.

The five-day enrolment exercise, conducted from 20th to 24th July 2026, targeted poor and vulnerable persons across the 114 wards in the 11 Local Government Areas of Gombe State as part of the collaboration between the Gates Foundation and the Gombe State Government.

Leveraging GoHealth's digital enrolment platform, all 20,000 beneficiaries were successfully identified, enrolled, and their GoHealth identification cards printed. The cards have since been delivered to their respective Local Government Areas and are ready for distribution.

Speaking during GoHealth's weekly radio programme on Amana FM, the Agency's Head of Enrolment, Mr. Musa Maaji, announced that the distribution of ID cards commenced on Monday, 27th July 2026, across all accredited Primary Health Care Centres (PHCs) in the state.

He explained that the initiative is designed to improve access to quality healthcare services by enabling poor and vulnerable residents to receive essential medical care without the burden of out-of-pocket expenses.

Also speaking, GoHealth's Operations Manager, Dr. Gideon Maspara, disclosed that a total of 40,615 individuals were identified during the exercise. However, owing to the funding allocation available under the Gates Foundation-supported programme, only 20,000 beneficiaries could be enrolled, leaving more than 20,000 eligible persons awaiting future support.

According to him, successful beneficiaries will receive SMS notifications confirming their enrolment, while the distribution of health insurance ID cards will continue across designated Primary Health Care Centres from 27th to 30th July 2026.

Dr. Maspara appealed to development partners, corporate organisations, philanthropic bodies, and well-meaning individuals to support social health insurance initiatives as part of their corporate social responsibility. He stressed that expanding health insurance coverage is one of the most effective ways to protect vulnerable populations from catastrophic healthcare expenditure while improving equitable access to essential healthcare services.

GoHealth Strengthens Health Insurance Delivery, Charts New Strategies to Improve Enrolment and Service Quality

The Gombe State Contributory Healthcare Management Agency (GoHealth) has reaffirmed its commitment to improving access to quality healthcare by adopting fresh strategies to strengthen beneficiary enrolment, enhance data quality, and improve service delivery across the state.

The resolutions were reached during the Agency's June 2026 Monthly Coordination Meeting held at the Learning Resource Centre, New GRA, Gombe, where management and technical teams reviewed programme performance, assessed operational challenges, and outlined practical measures to improve implementation across all Local Government Areas (LGAs).

Speaking during the meeting, the Director of Administration and Human Resource, Mal. Nuhu Usman Reme, welcomed participants and acknowledged the continued support of the Ex*****on Grant by the Gates Foundation in strengthening the Agency's operations through regular coordination meetings. He noted that the forum was designed to review ongoing activities, identify implementation gaps, and develop practical solutions that would enhance programme performance.

Delivering a goodwill message, Technical Assistant to the Ex*****on Grant at the Gombe State Primary Healthcare Development Agency (GSPHCDA), Adamu Galadima, disclosed that the grant team is currently supporting GoHealth in developing Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to strengthen performance management. He also expressed optimism that the Agency would secure an Application Programming Interface (API), which would facilitate seamless integration, improve dashboard reporting, and enhance programme visibility.

Another goodwill message delivered on behalf of the Ex*****on Grant Focal Person commended the Agency's commitment to continuous improvement and urged participants to sustain collaboration in advancing the objectives of the state's health insurance programme.

A major highlight of the meeting was a technical presentation by the Agency's Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) Officer, Mal. Sale Garba on "Monitoring and Evaluation Terminologies in Health Insurance." The session deepened participants' understanding of key M&E concepts, including programme inputs, outputs, outcomes, impacts, evaluation frameworks, and the practical application of M&E tools in tracking programme performance.

The Head of Enrolment Mr. Musa Maaji Yakubu, reported encouraging progress in beneficiary registration, revealing a noticeable increase in enrolment, particularly among dependants of Local Government workers. The improvement was attributed to targeted sensitisation campaigns conducted in schools by some LGA offices as well as broadcast jingles. Other LGAs were encouraged to adopt the school-based enrolment approach to further expand health insurance coverage.

To strengthen the integrity of the Agency's beneficiary database, enrolment officers were directed not to register prospective beneficiaries on the Digital Registry whenever a National Identification Number (NIN) cannot be successfully verified. Such enrolments, the meeting resolved, should only proceed after authentication by the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC).

Representatives from the various LGA offices also presented reports on data triangulation, Standard Quality Assurance (SQA) activities, operational challenges, and field observations. Among the recurring issues highlighted were drug stock-outs in some secondary healthcare facilities, discrepancies between facility registers and electronic records, and shortages of healthcare personnel.

In her closing remarks, the Director of Finance and Investment urged participants to apply the knowledge gained from the meeting, implement agreed action points promptly, uphold punctuality, and sustain teamwork towards improving programme performance and delivering better healthcare services to residents of Gombe State.

The meeting concluded with clear action points, including the expansion of school-based enrolment campaigns, intensified weekly onsite supportive supervision by LGA offices, improved reporting systems, and the presentation of the Monitoring and Evaluation training at the next Providers' Forum.

Gombe Showcases Innovative Health Insurance Solutions at National Summit

The Gombe State Contributory Healthcare Management Agency (GoHealth) emerged as one of the leading voices at the Maiden National Summit of State Social Health Insurance Agencies (SSHIAs), where it showcased innovative approaches to health insurance implementation, particularly its Vulnerability Assessment Tool (VAT) and data-driven strategies for expanding healthcare coverage among vulnerable populations.

The two-day summit, held from June 8 to 9, 2026, at the International Culture and Event Centre (The Dome), Akure, Ondo State, brought together government officials, health insurance regulators, development partners, financial institutions, policymakers, and stakeholders from across Nigeria's health sector. The event was convened under the theme, "Economic Realities and the Universal Health Coverage Dream: Mobilising States for a Scalable Health Insurance Future."

Representing the Executive Secretary and Team Lead of GoHealth, Dr. Abubakar Musa, the Agency's Director of Planning, Research and Statistics, Mr. Tanimu Umar, led a delegation of over a dozen officials to the summit, where Gombe State's achievements in health insurance expansion and social protection attracted significant attention from participants.

During the technical sessions on Best Practices and Innovations from State Social Health Insurance Agencies, Gombe presented its pioneering Vulnerability Index Assessment Tool (VIAT), an innovative framework developed to accurately identify, profile, and enroll vulnerable populations into health insurance schemes. The tool has contributed significantly to the development of a more robust social registry database, enabling targeted interventions and improved access to healthcare services for underserved communities.

Participants at the summit commended the innovative model, describing it as a practical solution for strengthening equity and ensuring that health insurance benefits reach those who need them most. The presentation reinforced Gombe State's growing reputation as a leading example in the implementation of sustainable and inclusive healthcare financing reforms.

The summit featured keynote presentations and panel discussions focusing on the evolution of state social health insurance schemes, sustainable financing models, expansion of coverage, enforcement of mandatory health insurance, strengthening primary healthcare systems, and domestic resource mobilization for Universal Health Coverage (UHC).

In the communiqué issued at the end of the summit, participants unanimously called for stronger political commitment to Universal Health Coverage, mandatory health insurance coverage across all states, improved funding mechanisms, expansion of coverage to vulnerable populations, strengthened primary healthcare systems, and the adoption of innovative financing strategies to guarantee sustainability.

The summit further recommended the harmonization of federal and state health insurance schemes, the establishment of Health Trust Funds by state governments, deployment of digital technologies for enrollment and claims management, and reforms aimed at improving provider accountability and reducing fraud within healthcare financing systems.

Speaking on the significance of the summit, members of the Gombe delegation noted that the engagements provided an opportunity for peer learning, knowledge exchange, and the strengthening of partnerships necessary for accelerating the attainment of Universal Health Coverage in Nigeria.

The Agency reaffirmed its commitment to leveraging innovation, technology, and evidence-based approaches to expand healthcare access and improve health outcomes for residents of Gombe State, particularly vulnerable and underserved populations.

The Maiden National Summit of State Social Health Insurance Agencies concluded with a renewed commitment by stakeholders to work collaboratively towards building resilient, equitable, and sustainable health insurance systems capable of delivering quality healthcare services to all Nigerians.
