TREATING A BURN OR CHOKING

In a medical emergency, the first 60 seconds are critical.
For a burn, immediately cool the skin with running water for 20 minutes.

For choking, alternate between 5 sharp back blows and 5 abdominal thrusts (Heimlich maneuver) to clear the airway.

Treating a Burn (First 60 Seconds)
Stop the burning: Move the person away from the heat source immediately.

Cool the burn: Run cool or lukewarm water over the burn for a minimum of 20 minutes. Never use ice, butter, or ointments.

Remove restrictions: Carefully remove any jewelry or loose clothing near the burn, but do not peel off anything that is stuck to the skin.

Cover it: Loosely place a layer of cling film (or a clean plastic bag for hands) over the burn to protect it from infection.

Seek medical help: depending on the severity. Seek immediate care if the burn is large, deep, or on the face/hands.
