Understanding S***m Leakage (Eda) in Yoruba Traditional Medicine

In Yoruba traditional medicine, involuntary emission or leakage of semen after sexual in*******se is commonly referred to as “Eda,” a Yoruba word meaning “to pour out.”

While this condition is generally not recognized as a medical disorder in conventional medicine and is often considered normal, Yoruba traditional practitioners believe that excessive s***m leakage may contribute to difficulties in conception in some women.

According to Yoruba traditional beliefs, some women experiencing unexplained infertility may also experience what is described as excessive s***m leakage (Eda). It is believed that when semen flows out excessively after in*******se, the amount retained for fertilization may be reduced.

Traditional Yoruba medicine categorizes s***m leakage (Eda) into two major types:

Types of S***m Leakage (Eda)

1. Eda Idubule (Leakage While Lying Down)

This occurs immediately or a few minutes after in*******se while the woman is still lying down. The semen flows back out shortly after sexual activity.

2. Eda Iduro or Inaro (Leakage While Standing)

This occurs when the woman stands up after in*******se. In some cases, the leakage may happen immediately, several hours later, or even the following day.

Symptoms of S***m Leakage (Eda)

The primary symptom is excessive discharge of semen from the vaginal area after in*******se. There are usually no other significant symptoms associated with the condition in Yoruba traditional understanding.

Traditional Diagnosis in Yoruba Medicine

In Yoruba traditional practice, diagnosis is mainly based on consultation and patient history. The practitioner asks questions regarding the woman’s experience after in*******se, particularly concerning the timing and quantity of semen discharge.

Based on these observations, the traditional practitioner determines the nature and extent of the condition.

Traditional Yoruba Treatment Approach

Yoruba traditional medicine utilizes various herbal preparations which may include:

Herbal powders

Liquid herbal mixtures

Herbal soaps

Herbal vaginal insertion tablets

The powders and liquids are commonly taken orally, while the herbal insertion preparations are used vaginally as directed. Herbal soap may also be recommended for personal cleansing.
