Common General Surgery Procedures at THE RIGHT PATH HOSPITAL, IKIRUN

When surgery is needed, having the right team makes a real difference. At The Right Path Hospital, Ikirun our certified general surgeons provide a wide range of surgical services, using both minimally invasive and traditional techniques where appropriate.

Some of the procedures we commonly perform include:

• Appendectomy – Removal of an inflamed or infected appendix, often through laparoscopic surgery for a smaller incision and faster recovery.

• Breast Surgery – Including lumpectomy, mastectomy, sentinel lymph node biopsy, and management of benign breast conditions.

• Colon & Re**al Surgery – Treatment of conditions such as colorectal cancer, diverticulitis, inflammatory bowel disease, and hemorrhoids.

• Gallbladder Surgery (Cholecystectomy) – Removal of the gallbladder, commonly performed for gallstones or gallbladder inflammation.

• Hernia Repair – Treatment of inguinal, umbilical, incisional, and more complex abdominal wall hernias using open or minimally invasive techniques.

• Anti-Reflux (GERD) Surgery – Procedures such as fundoplication for persistent acid reflux and hiatal hernias.

• Esophageal Surgery – Management of conditions affecting the oesophagus, including achalasia, diverticula, and certain benign or malignant conditions.

• Endocrine Surgery – Including thyroid, parathyroid, and adrenal gland procedures.

• Digestive Tract Surgery – Operations involving the stomach, small intestine, and related digestive structures.

• Emergency & Exploratory Surgery – Diagnostic and treatment procedures for serious or sudden abdominal conditions.

We also work closely with specialists in Obstetrics for Caesarean sections and with Ophthalmology when required, helping patients access comprehensive surgical care under one roof.

Whenever appropriate, we use advanced laparoscopic techniques to help reduce pain and scarring and support a quicker recovery.

Every patient is different, so your treatment plan is carefully tailored to your condition, with clear pre-operative guidance and dedicated post-operative care.

03/08/2026

You should only sleep on your left side.
But what if your back and body aches every time you do so?

Is the ‘left side only’ rule really that strict?

Sleeping position in pregnancy is important, but it’s also misunderstood.

Why doctors recommend the left side

Sleeping on your left side improves blood flow:

•It reduces pressure on the inferior vena cava (a large vein that carries blood back to your heart).

•It improves circulation to the placenta and baby.

•It can reduce swelling in your legs and feet.

That’s why it’s commonly advised, especially in the second and third trimesters.

But left side is not a punishment.

If sleeping strictly on your left causes:

•Hip pain

•Lower back pain

•Shoulder numbness

•Rib discomfort

You are not harming your baby by switching position

The goal is sleeping, not suffering.

Is the right side unsafe?

No.

Sleeping on your right side is still safe during pregnancy

It may slightly reduce optimal blood flow compared to the left, but it is far better than sleeping flat on your back

The position to truly avoid

After about 20 weeks, avoid sleeping flat on your back for long periods

The weight of your uterus can compress major blood vessels and:

•Reduce blood flow to your womb

•Lower your blood pressure

•Cause dizziness

Your body often warns you, you may feel breathless or lightheaded.

How to reduce the aches

If left-side sleeping causes pain:

•Place a pillow between your knees

•Put a small pillow behind your lower back for support

•Hug a pillow to align your shoulders

•Consider a pregnancy pillow for hip alignment

*Proper support often eases the discomfort*

The safest overall position in mid-to-late pregnancy is side sleeping, preferably left, but right is acceptable.

Comfort matters too. A well-rested mother supports a healthy pregnancy.

it could be sciatica, which is common in pregnancy.

You don’t have to suffer through the night to protect your baby.
