With the recent happenings in Nigeria, a lot of us are grieving loss of life and properties. ⠀

In addition to personalized grief, collective grief can take it’s toll on us. Coming together as a community to mourn in various ways can help, as we saw in the candlelight vigils held in different parts of the country and overseas. ⠀

Click link in bio to read about collective grief and a couple of ways that humans can be there for one another.

The diaphragm connects directly or indirectly with so many organs, bones, muscles and tissues. Based on the individual and condition presented, I use mind-body manual therapies including acupuncture, to support conditions like acid reflux, chest pain, blood pressure issues, back pain, anxiety, etc.
There is so much to this strong muscle(s). More on the diaphragm(s) of the body later. @ Ikoyi, Lagos, Nigeria

In my practice, I’m more focused on applying yoga for therapeutic purposes, but I will not deny that many people get into yoga for the sake of flexibility.
The purpose of yoga is to connect the body and mind (and spirit). Not everyone was made to perform certain poses the same way, which is why modifications exist.
This image shows the upper thigh bone from two people. The angle of insertion into the pelvis already shows that one of them (can you guess which one in the comments?) is predestined to have more open hips and can perform splits more easily?
I’ve seen many yogis throw themselves at poses to impress their egos, friends, instagram, the dog down the road, etc. You don’t need that. Just do what you can.
You can practice yoga for 100 years and not be able to do the splits. You can practice yoga without even doing one asana. I have taught yoga to disabled people, and some did theirs sitting down. The only yoga you should be doing should be the one that allows you to go within and regulate your body.
Of course you will become more flexible as you progress on your yoga journey but also be aware that injuries happen (which is also why you need the guidance of a certified yoga teacher). As much as you want to bruk it down and bust that move, have some compassion for your body and mind. (Image from Google)

Maybe I should say anatomical form. Or the state. When it comes to chronic pain of the back, shoulders, chest, knees, etc, we tend to overlook the impact that other tissues/organs like the tongue and their placements, the teeth, jaw, eyes, ears can have.
For example, when your eyes get stressed or when we want to concentrate on something we tend to try to focus more by stiffening or protruding the head, leading to an imbalance on the neck. Overtime, other alignment issues can set in.
This is just one pattern to consider. Now imagine all the numerous things we do and all the thoughts we have that we are not even aware of, and the impact they can have on the state of our nerves, muscles, bones, being. We cannot escape these things and therefore need regular neuromuscular resets.
This is where manual therapy and body work comes in. Acupuncture can target the nerves and muscles, releasing stuck energy (qi, chi), targeted therapeutic yoga (when done intentionally) can offer immense release to the body.
Now imagine a multidimensional session that incorporates techniques to rebalance, soothe and strengthen the different facets of your beingness. ❤️❤️

Trauma results whenever an experience exceeds our abilities to handle and cope with its consequences.
The energy of the trauma is stored in our bodies’ tissues (muscles, bones, ligaments, fascia, nervous system and even blood) until it can be released.
This stored trauma typically leads to pain and progressively erodes the body’s health.
