🫟 GRAM STAINING TIPS
Decolorise carefully: Too long a decolorising time makes Gram-positive cells look falsely negative. Too short a time leaves Gram-negative cells looking purple.
Use young cultures: Old Gram-positive cultures, around 24 hours or more, can lose their walls' integrity and stain pink.
Mnemonic: Remember the order as CV, I, A, S: crystal violet, iodine, alcohol, safranin.
