The Katsina State Drugs and Medical Supplies Agency (Katsina DMSA) has commended SWAP and Baitulmaal for providing essential medical supplies to support healthcare delivery across Katsina State.

The supplies were officially flagged off for distribution to selected secondary and Primary Healthcare Centres (PHCs) during a ceremony held at the Katsina State Drugs & Medical Supplies Agency (DMSA), led by the Executive Governor of Katsina State, Malam Dikko Umar Radda.

Governor Radda reaffirmed the State Government’s commitment to ensuring the availability of essential medicines and medical commodities in healthcare facilities, noting that such interventions will strengthen healthcare services and improve access to quality care.

The Governor appreciated SWAP and Baitulmaal for their support and pledged continued collaboration with development partners.

The Executive Secretary of the Katsina State Drugs & Medical Supplies Agency (DMSA), Hajiya Fatima Shu’aibu Kurfi, assured that the commodities would be distributed appropriately, while the Honourable Commissioner for Health, Hon. Musa Adamu Funtua, urged healthcare personnel to ensure proper management and judicious use of the supplies.

KATSINA STATE RECEIVES TWO CONTAINERS OF MEDICAL COMMODITIES FROM BAITILMAL ORGANIZATION

The Katsina State Government has received two containers of essential medical commodities donated by the Baitilmal Organization, an affiliate of the Qatar Foundation, to strengthen healthcare service delivery across the state.

The donation was received at the headquarters of the Katsina State Drugs and Medical Supplies Agency (DMSA) by the Honourable Commissioner of Health on behalf of His Excellency, Malam Dikko Umaru Radda, PhD, CON, Executive Governor of Katsina State.

Speaking during the handover, the Honourable Commissioner of Health appreciated the Baitilmal Organization for its generous support and commended Governor Radda’s commitment to fostering strategic international partnerships that continue to improve access to quality healthcare and strengthen the state’s medical supply system.

The Executive Secretary of DMSA, Pharm. Fatima Shu’aibu Kurfi, PhD, described the intervention as a significant boost to the availability of essential medical commodities in public health facilities. She assured that the Agency will ensure transparent inventory management, proper storage, quality assurance, and equitable distribution in line with established standards.

Governor Radda Increases Free Medicare Funding by 207% as Katsina DMSA Distributes Essential Medicines, Project CURE Medical Equipment

Governor Malam Dikko Umaru Radda, PhD, CON, has announced a 207% increase in the budgetary allocation for the Free Medicare Programme, significantly expanding access to free healthcare services for vulnerable residents across Katsina State.

The Governor made the announcement during the official flag-off of the distribution of Free Medicare medicines and Project CURE medical equipment to health facilities across the state.

Representing the Honourable Commissioner for Health, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Health reaffirmed the State Government's commitment to strengthening healthcare delivery through sustained investment in medicines, medical equipment and health infrastructure.

Speaking at the event, the Executive Secretary of the Katsina State Drugs and Medical Supplies Agency (DMSA), Pharm. Fatima Shu'aibu Kurfi, PhD, highlighted major achievements recorded by the Agency since 2023. She disclosed that the Agency's workforce has increased from 34 to 70 staff, while the Drug Revolving Fund (DRF) has grown by 400%. She added that the number of health facilities supplied with essential medicines has expanded from 50 to nearly 200.

She further revealed that DMSA has established modern pharmaceutical warehouses, deployed medicine distribution vehicles, introduced a digital procurement system, and expanded the Free Medicare Programme by 207% to cover pregnant women, children under five, malaria treatment, snakebite management and anti-rabies medications statewide.

Pharm. Fatima also announced that the Agency's pharmaceutical manufacturing facility is nearing completion and is expected to commence production of its first six essential medicines before the end of the year.

Governor Radda stated that his administration has also provided start-up capital for the Drug Revolving Fund (DRF) in 361 upgraded Primary Healthcare Centres across the state and approved the recruitment of additional personnel to strengthen medicine supply, quality assurance, logistics and warehouse management.

The Governor commended the management and staff of Katsina State Drugs and Medical Supplies Agency (DMSA) for their dedication and appreciated Project CURE for its continued partnership in improving healthcare delivery in Katsina State.

The event was attended by the Deputy Governor, Hon. Faruk Lawal Jobe, Chairman of the DMSA Governing Board, Alhaji Hamza Muhammad Brodo, Executive Secretary of the Hospitals Management Board, Dr. Nazir Muhammad Shehu, senior government officials and development partners.
