Mama has just given birth. Her body is recovering, her hormones are changing, she's probably not getting enough sleep, and she's learning how to care for a whole human being.
Yet, sometimes, the people around her say things that make this season even harder. 😭
Let's talk about 6 statements we need to stop making to new mothers!
1️⃣ “You should be enjoying motherhood!”
Mama can love her baby deeply and still feel exhausted, overwhelmed, or emotional. Motherhood can be beautiful and difficult at the same time. She doesn't have to pretend everything is perfect.
2️⃣ “Why are you still looking pregnant?”
Her body carried a baby for months, and recovery takes time. Her uterus needs time to shrink, and her body has gone through significant changes. Comments about her belly or weight can hurt her confidence.
3️⃣ “Your baby is crying because you don't know how to take care of them.”
Please, let's stop this one! 😭 Babies cry for many reasons, including hunger, tiredness, discomfort, and needing comfort. A crying baby doesn't automatically mean the mother is doing something wrong. She needs support, not blame.
4️⃣ “When I had my baby, I didn't behave like this!”
Every birth experience is different. Every baby is different, and every mother's recovery and support system are different. Comparing her journey to someone else's may make her feel inadequate.
5️⃣ “Other women have it worse. Stop complaining!”
Mama's struggles don't become less important because another woman is going through something difficult. She may be dealing with pain, breastfeeding challenges, exhaustion, or emotional changes. Sometimes, she simply needs someone to listen without judging her.
6️⃣ “So, when are we expecting another baby?” 😳
Mama, she has barely recovered from having this baby, and you're already asking for another one? 😂😭
She may want another child someday, or she may not. She might need time to recover physically and emotionally, consider her finances, or decide what's best for her family. Some mothers may also be dealing with fertility challenges or a difficult birth experience.
Please, let her enjoy and recover from the baby she has before putting pressure on her about another one! ❤️
💕 HERE'S WHAT YOU CAN SAY INSTEAD:
❤️ “How are YOU feeling, Mama?”
❤️ “What can I do to help you today?”
❤️ “Would you like me to help with the baby so you can rest?”
❤️ “You're doing your best, and you don't have to do everything alone.”
Sometimes, the best gift you can give a new mother is kindness without judgment.
And to every new Mama reading this: you don't have to be a perfect mother. You deserve care, patience, and support, too. 🫶🏽❤️

Which of these six statements annoys you the most? 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, or 6? 😂👇🏽
And be honest, Mama: Has anyone already started asking when you're having another baby? 😭😂
