The holiday is gradually wrapping up. Please tell the children because some of them are still mentally enjoying Summer Vibes. ๐
After weeks of sleeping late, waking up whenever, eating at questionable hours and generally living like there is no tomorrow...
You now want to say:
โSchool starts on Monday. Wake up by 5:30.โ
Hmm.
Good luck. ๐ญ
But seriously, the jump from holiday mode to school routine can be a lot for children.
Their bodies have settled into one rhythm.
Their minds have settled into another.
So rather than waiting until the night before school to announce:
โTomorrow, we are waking up early.โ
Start easing them back in now.
Move bedtime a little earlier.
Start bringing back regular mealtimes.
Reduce the midnight indulgences and morning sleeping competitions.
Let them practise getting ready.
Get their school things organised together.
And talk about school again.
Not as a threat.
Not:
โIf you don't behave, your teacher will discipline you.โ
Please, don't start with threat. ๐
Talk about their friends.
Their teachers.
What they are looking forward to.
What they might be nervous about.
Because returning to school is not only a change in schedule.
It is a transition.
And children often handle transitions better when we give them time to adjust.
So, small small...
Let's bring them back to reality.
Holiday mode cannot last forever.
Although some parents are also wondering if they can negotiate one more week. ๐

Save this for the week before school starts, and send it to that parent whose child is currently sleeping at 1am and waking up at 11am.
We need to help everybody land safely.
