.Rapid Stomach Renewal: The stomach lining must constantly regenerate its surface cells (a process called mitosis) because the environment is highly acidic. This complete renewal happens every 3 to 4 days to prevent the organ from digesting itself.
.The Heart's Independent Beat: While the brain regulates heart rate based on the body's needs, the heartbeat itself is intrinsic. The heart generates its own electrical impulses, primarily from the Sinoatrial (SA) node, allowing it to beat even if completely disconnected from the brain (as in a heart transplant).
.Fat Cell Dynamics: Weight loss does not destroy fat cells (adipocytes). Instead, it empties the lipid droplets stored within them, causing the cells to shrink significantly in size. Conversely, weight gain causes these existing cells to swell again, rather than increasing the number of cells.
.Brain Cleaning During Sleep: The brain has its own unique waste disposal system called the glymphatic system. This network becomes much more active during sleep, using cerebrospinal fluid to flush out toxic metabolic byproducts, such as beta-amyloid, that accumulate while awake.
.The Useful Appendix: The appendix is not a useless evolutionary remnant. It serves as a specialized reservoir or "safe house" for beneficial gut bacteria. After a severe gastrointestinal infection, these bacteria emerge from the appendix to repopulate the digestive tract and restore gut health.
