Early Signs of Kidney Failure

Kidney problems often start quietly, so it’s important to notice small changes early.

Kidney failure is commonly linked to chronic kidney disease, which develops gradually over time.

Common Early Warning Signs:
Changes in Urination, Urinating more often (especially at night)
Urinating less than usual, Foamy or bubbly urine (protein in urine)
Dark, pale, or bloody urine.

Swelling (Fluid Retention)
Swelling in feet, ankles, hands, or face
Caused by the body holding onto extra fluid.

Important: Early kidney failure may show very mild symptoms, so regular check-ups are key.

If caught early, kidney damage can be slowed or even prevented from getting worse.

We join the world in marking world kidney day 2026.

The campaign emphasizes that protecting the environment is essential for preventing kidney disease, ensuring that we look after both human health and the planet simultaneously.

“Kidney Health for All – Caring for People, Protecting the Planet”.

The theme for International Women's Day 2026 is “Give to Gain.”

This theme conveys a powerful message: when society gives women equal opportunities, respect, education, and support, the entire world gains from their progress and leadership

International Women's Day is celebrated on 8 March, commemorating women's fight for equality and liberation along with the women's rights movement.

International Women's Day gives focus to issues such as gender equality, reproductive rights, and violence and abuse against women.

This theme encourages individuals, organizations, and communities to support women through opportunities, education, and resources, emphasizing that when women succeed, society benefits as well.

“Empowered women, empower the world.”
Happy International Women's Day from Doren Specialist Hospital Limited

03/03/2026

Children’s ears are more sensitive and more prone to infection than adults. Proper care helps prevent pain, infections, and hearing problems.

Hearing loss affects around 90 million children and adolescents aged 5-19 years, across all parts of the world (Global burden of disease study, 2021).

However, it commonly remains undetected, especially in low-resource settings, according to WHO, world Health Organization.

Globally, school-age children with hearing loss often remain undiagnosed and without access to needed services (World report on hearing, 2021).

This year, as we celebrate International Ear Care Day 2026, WHD highlights the theme "FROM COMMUNITIES TO CLASSROOMS: HEARING CARE FOR ALL CHILDREN."

The campaign focuses on two imperatives:

• Preventing avoidable childhood hearing loss
• Ensuring early identification of and care for children with ear or hearing problems

Communities and classrooms are natural entry points to reach children, parents, and teachers.

By integrating hearing care into school health and child health programmes, we can help children hear, learn, and succeed.

Cleaning a Child’s Ears:

Clean only the outer ear with a soft, damp cloth. Dry ears gently after bathing.

Do NOT insert cotton buds inside the ear.

Do NOT use hairpins, matchsticks, or fingers.

Do NOT pour random oils or liquids into the ear.

The ear canal cleans itself naturally.

Ear Infections in Children. Very common, especially under age 5.

Common types include: Otitis media (middle ear infection), Otitis externa (outer ear infection)

Signs to Watch For:

Child pulling or rubbing the ear, crying more than usual, Fever.

Trouble sleeping, Fluid or pus coming from the ear.

Trouble hearing or not responding to sounds.

Always see a doctor if you suspect infection.

Let’s talk about Eating Disorder. (Comparing Yourself To Others)

Eating disorder It’s not just dieting or “picky eating”—it can affect physical health, emotions, and daily life.

It may include Unhealthy eating behaviours of eating too much or too little, or worrying about your weight or body shape.

Eating disorder is a serious mental health condition where a person has unhealthy thoughts and behaviors around food, eating, body weight, or body shape.

It is a mental health condition where you use the control of food to cope with feelings and other situations.

They are among the most dangerous mental health conditions if untreated.

Early Warning Signs of an Eating Disorder

Watch for patterns, not just one behavior:

Changes around Food, skipping meals often, eating very small portions, avoiding entire food groups (carbs, fats, etc.). Going to the bathroom immediately after eating and eating large amounts secretly.

Body Image Changes: Constantly talking about being “fat”, weighing yourself frequently, checking mirrors repeatedly, COMPARING BODY TO OTHERS A LOT

Emotional Signs: Guilt or shame after eating, anxiety around mealtimes, mood swings, withdrawing from friends and family

Causes:
There is no single cause. It may involve, low self-esteem, trauma or stress, social/media pressure about body image, family history and control issues.

Treatment & Recovery: Eating disorders are treatable, especially when caught early.

Treatment may include: Therapy (like cognitive behavioral therapy), nutrition counseling, medical monitoring, and support groups and in severe cases, hospital care.

Recovery is possible, but it takes time and support.

At Doren Specialist Hospital, we join the world in marking this year National Eating Disorders Awareness Week. Your eating habit is the first step to having a healthy living.

09/02/2026

One of the ways you can improve your well-being in 2026, experts says sitting for over 8-11 hours daily increases risks of heart disease, diabetes, cancer, and premature death.

Prolonged, uninterrupted sitting (120-180+ minutes) slows blood circulation.

Causes vascular dysfunction, and weakens muscles.

To counter this, break up sitting time every 30-60 minutes with light activity, utilize standing desks, and aim for 30-40 minutes of daily exercise.

Sitting for long periods is thought to slow the metabolism, which affects the body's ability to regulate blood sugar, blood pressure and break down body fat.

- How long is too much sitting in a day?

More than eight hours a day with no physical activity.

- What is the 90-90-90 rule for sitting?

This means that your elbows should be bent at a 90-degree angle.

Your hips should be at a 90-degree angle.

Your knees should be at a 90-degree angle.

With your feet flat on the floor beneath your chair.

- Which muscles get weak from sitting?
When you sit too much, core, back, and leg muscles don't get used.

They weaken, making everyday movements harder.

Staying in one position causes your hips, knees, and lower back to tighten, reducing flexibility and ease of movement.

Have walking meetings, take phone calls while standing, or take the stairs.

Stand or walk for a few minutes every 30-60 minutes.

Having muscle cramps? Schedule an appointment with our consultant.

04/02/2026

Waiting until you feel sick before seeing a doctor is a dangerous step to begin your 2026.

Waiting until you feel sick before seeing a doctor is a common, yet potentially dangerous, approach to health that often allows - manageable conditions - to progress into serious, chronic, or life-threatening emergencies.

Many serious illnesses—such as high blood pressure, diabetes, and certain cancers—develop silently, with symptoms appearing only in advanced stages.

Here is a breakdown of the risks and the importance of proactive care:

Why You Should Not Wait Until You Feel Sick.
Preventable Progression:
Many illnesses, when caught early via regular check-ups, are easier to treat or even reverse.

"Silent" Killers:
Conditions like high blood pressure, diabetes, and kidney problems often show no early symptoms.

Higher Costs and Risk:
Delaying care can lead to more expensive, invasive treatments and longer recovery times.

Hidden Dangers:
Chronic fatigue, unexplained weight loss, or persistent, minor aches can be signs of underlying, severe issues.

When You Should See a Doctor (Even if Not "Bad Enough")

Do not wait for symptoms to become severe. Consult a professional if you experience:

Persistent Symptoms:
A cold, cough, or symptoms that last longer than 7–10 days.

Unusual Changes:
Unexpected weight loss, changes in bowel habits, or persistent pain.

Mental Health Shifts:
Extreme, lasting sadness, anxiety, or changes in sleep/appetite.

Risk Factors:
If you have underlying conditions (like diabetes or heart disease) or are over 65, act quickly at the first sign of illness.

The word "Pediatrician" comes from the Greek words:"pais" meaning "child"

- "iatros" meaning "doctor" or "healer"

A pediatrician is literally a "child doctor"

It’s National Pediatrician Day – January 28, 2026

A pediatrician is a medical doctor who specializes in the health and well-being of infants, children, and adolescents.

They're experts in diagnosing and treating a wide range of childhood illnesses, from common colds to complex conditions.

National Pediatrician Day is observed on January 28 every year.

This holiday ensures these specialized doctors get their due.

Positively rate their practice, send new patients their way, or maybe buy them lunch.

Communicate your thanks in any way you can.

After all, pediatricians, who get their name from the derivation of two Greek words that mean ‘healer of children,’ care for arguably the most important members of society — our children.

They deserve a day that honors their contribution to healthcare too.

Is the doctor that took care of your childhood ailments still around?

Check in on them and take a quick walk down memory lane.

Show them you still remember and honor the care they gave you.

During a pediatrician visit for your child, you can expect:

- Check-ups:
Regular growth monitoring, vaccinations, and developmental assessments.

- Discussion:
Talk about feeding, sleep, behavior, and any concerns.

- Exams:
Physical check-ups, hearing/vision screening, and milestone assessments.

- Guidance:
Tips on nutrition, safety, and child development.

- Questions:
Ask about anything from potty training to illness management.

If you can't find your pediatrician, how about building a relationship with your children’s doctor starting today?

AVOIDING SELF MEDICATION IS ANOTHER

Self-medication is the use of drugs without your doctor’s prescription or guidance.

It’s common for quick relief but also risky.

-The advantages of self-medication:
Fast access
It is very convenience
It saves time and
Money for minor issues.

- The disadvantages of self-medication you must know:
Wrong dosage
Drug interactions
Masking serious conditions
Antibiotic resistance

Common self-medication mistakes we all make:
- Taking wrong dose or too often
- Using expired meds
- Mixing drugs without checking interactions
- Treating symptoms without knowing cause
- Overusing antibiotics (leads to resistance)
- Ignoring allergies or health conditions

Always read labels, follow dosage, and know when to see a doctorespecially for persistent or severe symptoms.

To improve your well-being in 2026, experts recommend stopping health habits that foster an all-or-nothing mindset, prioritize appearance over health, and ignore the basics of rest and recovery.

Here are 6 health habits to leave behind in 2026

• COMPARING YOURSELF TO OTHERS
• IGNORING SLEEP & RECOVERY
