ANNOUNCING 2018 AMLSN FESTAC/SATELLITE CORPORATE BUSINESS WORKSHOP

Preambles

Private medical Laboratory facilities together with the other private healthcare providers are believed to be responsible for the delivery of over 60% of healthcare service in our system. They are also believed to be the employers of close to 70% of medical laboratory scientists, technicians and assistances. The survivals of private practices are crucial to the wellbeing of our profession. In fact, they are the mainstay of our professional Commonwealth's economy.

However, the increasing competitiveness in the diagnostic service market coupled with hostile business environment makes starting up a new medical laboratory facility and trying to comply with state and federal laws and regulations confusing.

Sadly, there is now little doubt that this hostile environment will continue and perhaps even worsen in the coming years ahead, reflecting the combined effects of the following:

-Poorer, erratic electricity supply and high cost of running generators.

HOW I INTEND TO HANDLE OUR ISSUES WITH HEFAMAA.

First I want to make it categorically clear that my leadership will not obstruct nor resist genuine and organized regulatory and monitoring activities on our practices by the right agencies, HEFAMAA inclusive, as far as the areas of conflicts with Nigerian constitution,Federal scheme of service and MLSCN act are well delineated and straightened out, as this will prove that we have nothing to hide.

We shall be on the fore front of promoting good and professional practices where our colleagues would have dignity and pride of place among entire medical team and before our patients. But my leadership would NOT support malpractice in its entirety. My team will ensure that HEFAMAA plays according to the rules and NOT A MONEY MAKING OR REVENUE TARGET AGENCY, where a facility is fined heavily for any imaginary offences. It must be made clear to all concerned that you have indeed erred and you must have taken your chances of first offender and warnings as agreeable by all of us .

On the incessant complaints by some of our colleagues on maltreatment by the HEFAMMA and agents of government, we are studying the situation. A great Boss once told me, ‘persistence beats resistance. In life I have learned these two major lessons: All great things take time, and you must persist no matter what. That is what it takes to be a leader: willingness to go beyond where others will stop.

I have listened to you and will do things differently. My campaign team are currently looking at the aspect of the law visa-a-vis the MLSCN Act and the HEFAMAA Law. I understand like all of us do that health is on the concurrent list .There are also several areas of conflict already identified by the MLSCN. Most of these issues are legal in nature but with your prayers, your support, my leadership shall engage these issues with excellent political , diplomatic and round the table discussions with facts facing up approach to get excellent and acceptable results to our colleagues. These i shall do BOLDLY WITHOUT FEAR OF INTIMIDATION BECAUSE I AM FROM THE PRIVATE SECTOR WHERE I FEAR NO BOSS TO VICTIMISE ME FOR STANDING STRONG TO DEFEND MY PEOPLE and with our collective effort we shall get over them triumphantly at the end. The records are there that several years ago while I was still an Asst. Secretary of our noble association, I stood on the fore front of a strong engagement with HEFAMAA to retrieve a publication that purported that only very few private labs were registered as against over 100. With the blessing of the EXCO then Under able leadership of Dr OKAFOR and our own TY Raheem on the board of HEFAMAA then, I personally sponsored the legal team that wrote to them to retrace their steps which they did and republished in 3 national dailies as we demanded.This brought succor,applause and respect to our colleagues.

I wish to assure every MLS in public and private practices in Lagos state that my leadership will not slack on issue of HEFAMAAor any agent of government that seek to mo**st, intimidate or harass any of our colleagues on legitimate course of duty. We promise to be prompt in tackling such threat headlong, using every lawful avenue open to us, to ensure that the rights of every MLS is respected, no matter who is involved. My leadership of AMLSN Lagos state will tenaciously pursue the protection of MLS practices to a logical conclusion.

MY PLANS TOWARDS ENDING OUR POOR DATA SYSTEM : NO GOOD ORGANIZATION CAN IMPACT POSITIVELY WITHOUT THIS .
My most distinguished and respectable colleagues,
HAPPY NATIONAL CONFERENCE WEEK even as I congratulate our National President Alh TY Raheem and his NOC for a progressive conference at Jalingo.

You ask, what is our plan on how to make AMLSN Lagos visible locally and globally?
I can say: I have listened to you and will do things differently.
My team will provide the association a robust and efficient online database that will be incorporated to a website with serial security coded Identity card for all members.
The last functional website we had was hosted during the tenure of my Chairman, Wale Oladubu while I was the General secretary .(2010-2013)which is not functional anymore(I stand to be corrected)
The website will allow the publicity team and likewise other persons and institutions locally and globally see us, meet us,relate with us and to blog unto LinkedIn ,facebook, twitter, google+, etc. The database system will allow members register online, assign unique association codes,numbers to registered members, allows members to search any member that is registered and when their registration expires and even allows renewal of registration online. In this way we can locate any member's practice and location at the click of a Botton.This system will foster Professional development,Knowledge resources, Getting members involved, Shaping the profession, Public Relationship Management, Keep track of the follow ups, Keep and organize important association documents, Analysis,statistics and prospecting Donations and fundings, Contacts and relationships, Supporting members both personally and professionally to achieve their goals.
It will be a very interactive,user friendly and secure data base where your inputs will be admitted before the software is commissioned. Top software companies have been contacted to bring in demo designs .
My team will deliver this within our first 2months in office.

My most distinguished and respectable colleagues,

Once again in furtherance to my chronological articulation of my plans and programme for our noble profession I wish to share with you:

MY PLANS TO REUNITE ALL MLS IN LAGOS AND ACHIEVE VISIBLE RESULTS AT MEASURABLE TIME INTERVALS

I am committed to doing things differently in AMLSN Lagos state branch. I am committed to getting results in the first 60days, 100 days and 365 days as your state chairman. Not in three years. These must be measurable and I will be held responsible.
Now, because our people need help now. I have constantly and freshly engaged our colleagues in private and public sectors to identify our problems and challenges in order of priority and urgency.
That is my commitment to you. I am ready to be your State chairman, and I fully understand what this means.

If by the grace of God, and your support,you elect me the next State chairman I will make sure the association works for every MLS, both in private and public sectors, Young and old, Male and female, Federal civil servants and LSHMB civil servants, Interns or NYSC or Academicians or other practitioners, including those who would have voted for me and those who would not. That is a clear,costed and honest promise.

My leadership of AMLSN Lagos State will work hard to bring people together, build bridges and bring closer the different point of views which exist in this association. I must ensure, with your support and prayers, the state executive officers represent the values you, the ordinary but most respected MLS practitioners cherish. Such Values like: Unity in diversity, Transparency, Excellence in all we do, Tolerance, Dignity, compassion for one another, pride in our differences, respect for the supremacy of our constitution, cooperation with the association at South West and National levels. Those values are shared by all well meaning MLSs. We will work together to bring those values back to our association.

No matter which candidate you may have supported in this election, we can put the old debates aside after the elections and work together to move our association to a new level. "TOGETHER WE CAN". We can prove that the cynics are wrong. That it is possible for AMLSN Lagos to have a solidly focused, united and excellent representation within our leadership fold.

Someone asked, "Why must I cast my vote for you as an aspirant to the position of the Chairman AMLSN, Lagos state Branch?"

By God's grace and your support, My leadership shall work to provide strong framework for promoting professional excellence and improved ML services at private and public Laboratory facilities by focusing on collaboration, education, practice, Research, Management and leadership.We shall undertake the coordination of courses and seminars in our CPDs aimed at improving quality of MLSs and strengthing the Human Resources for Medical Laboratory services. We shall not only work to create opportunities but rise to the challenges of health work crisis, socioeconomic issues, unemployment, low wages, huge shortage of work force in public facilities, weak management system, and economic challenges

MY PLAN FOR THE HOUSING SCHEME

Dear esteemed colleagues,

Thank you for joining me today.

Let me say this, I am humbled by your support and receptibility of my candidacy so far. If I am going to accomplish my dream of being your state chairman, which by the grace, "I will", I will certainly need your prayers, support and vote. I know I can not do it all alone. For me, it is insulting for anyone to insinuate or say that You can be paid with money to give your support and votes to a visionary candidate. Nor can anyone think he can use blackmail to frighten or suffocate you into it. Instead, I humbly advice all the candidates and I to strive to win the trust of MLS in the state. I mean, each of the candidates, to stand up and address issues that matter to them, to make commitments that are clear, measurable and costed and to offer leadership they can trust.

The current housing scheme started during my regime as the Branch Secretary, under the chairmanship of Olawale Oladubu, and my personal funds are in it and I am part of it.

We have listened to you and do things differently. My leadership will make the housing scheme more robust by expanding it to reach more and more MLS as possible. We shall also explore the possibilities of renegotiating the cost to make it far more affordable as we expand it to include more people, more locations thereby giving more options in the Scientist Village .We shall also work out the details to make the scheme revolving.
