Yesterday, someone sent me a message. She said, Mrs. Mel, I’m getting married soon. My husband is an Odogwu. I don win jackpot!” Those were her exact words.
So I asked her, “What do you do for a living?”
She said, “Nothing.”
“Do you run a business?”
She said, “No
Then she added, “Ah ma, there’s no need for me to do anything again. My husband is rich, he will take care of me.
And immediately, my heart sank.
Because, let me ask you: how can you throw away your own identity because of another person’s money? Money that is not yours. Money that can wake up one day and tell you, “Pack your things and leave my house.” Money that can insulttt you, bullyyy you, and make you beg for the barest things.
I told her, Get an identity. Work for your money. Even if your husband is a billionaire, your own ₦5,000 in your account is your pride. That money gives you a voice.
Think about it, imagine begging for panties, begging for a simple dress, begging to buy pad for your periodd. There was even a woman who once traveled for a burial, and during her mensesss, she had to meet her husband in the middle of the crowd to say, Please, give me money, I’m flowing.
That is not the life God created you for.
God did not design you to be a collector. He created you to be a giver too. Marriage is sweetest when there’s reciprocity. I give, you give. We support each other. But when one person only collects, it becomes slavery.
So today I say to every woman:
👉 Outside of your “Mrs.”, be worth something.
👉 Build your own identity.
👉 Don’t let marriage buryy who you are.
Because so many women were not buriedd in the grave they were buried in marriage. Not because they d!ed but because the only thing keeping them alive was the title “wife.” And when that marriage collapsed, they had nothing left.
Hear me well , being a Mrs. is not enough.
Marriage should never erase your identity. It should amplify it.
May you never lose yourself in the name of marriage.
May you never be burieddd alive u
