On Tuesday, June 9, 2026, Nigeria marked a major milestone with the ceremonial groundbreaking of the Abbott Localization Factory, in partnership with Afrimedical and JNCI.
Following the MoU signed in December 2024, proudly facilitated with JNCI’s support, this project has moved from vision to reality.
The facility will support local manufacturing of Rapid Diagnostic Test Kits, strengthening Nigeria’s healthcare resilience, improving access to essential diagnostics, and reducing dependence on imports.
The event brought together distinguished leaders across government, development agencies, healthcare institutions, and the private sector, including representatives from PVAC, the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare, Ogun State Government, Abia State Government, Abbott, Afrimedical, WHO Nigeria, CHAI Nigeria, Healthcare Federation of Nigeria, and other key stakeholders.
This groundbreaking is a strong testament to the Federal Government’s commitment to bridging healthcare gaps through strategic private sector partnerships. It also reinforces the power of collaboration in driving local capacity, technology transfer, economic growth, and sustainable healthcare delivery.
For us at JNCI, this milestone represents progress, partnership, and a shared commitment to building the future of healthcare manufacturing in Nigeria.
