We are delighted to announce Prof. Solomon Ofori-Acquah as our Day 2 Keynote Speaker at the Sickle Cell Disease African Scientific Symposium 2026 ( 2026).

An internationally renowned physician-scientist, Professor of Medicine and Genetics at Emory University, and President of the Sickle Cell Foundation Ghana, Prof. Ofori-Acquah has dedicated his career to advancing the science of Sickle Cell Disease through groundbreaking research, genomics, and capacity building across Africa.

His pioneering contributions include developing the first animal model of Acute Chest Syndrome, a major milestone that transformed preclinical SCD research. He also leads several landmark initiatives, including the Georgia Solve Sickle Cell Initiative, the West African Genetic Medicine Centre (WAGMC), the Sickle Cell Disease Genomics of Africa Network (H3Africa), and the Ghanaian Genome Project – programmes that are expanding Africa's capacity in genetics, precision medicine, and genomic research.

Across Sub-Saharan Africa, many capable research sites remain outside the global clinical trial ecosystem, not because of limited expertise, but because they lack access to the networks, partnerships, and visibility that drive multinational studies.

This is why the Xcene Research Site Alliance Network (XRSAN) was created.
