BEING CHOSEN IS NOT ENOUGH. YOU MUST CHOOSE WISELY.
One of the things I want mature singles to understand is this:
Someone choosing you is not proof that you should choose them.
They may pursue you consistently.
They may tell you they have never felt this way about anyone.
They may be attractive, successful, kind, generous, educated, spiritual or financially comfortable.
They may even be exactly the kind of person you have been praying to meet.
But you still need to ask yourself if this person is right for you.
Because dating is not an audition where your biggest achievement is finally getting selected.
You are also the one doing the selecting.
During our clarity sessions, I often encourage people to move from:
“Does this person want me?”
to:
"Do I have enough evidence to wisely choose this person?”
That can save you from many painful decisions.
Look beyond attraction.
Look at character.
Look at emotional maturity.
Look at how they handle disagreement.
Look at responsibility.
Look at their values.
Look at how they treat boundaries.
Look at their attitude toward money, family, commitment and accountability.
Look at whether the life they are building is in alignment with the life you want to build, and please don't let the fact that you have been single for a long time make you feel that anyone who chooses you deserves a YES.
You are not desperate because you want marriage, but you must be careful that your desire for marriage doesn't make you desperate in your choices.
Being chosen feels good; choosing wisely is what matters.
