DRASA - Dr. Ameyo Stella Adadevoh Health Trust

Founded in memory of Dr Ameyo Stella Adadevoh. DRASA was established in memory of the late Dr. Ameyo Stella Adadevoh.

We are developing a network of Health Champions who are catalysts of change while also working with federal, state and local institutions to shape public policy and institutionalise disease prevention. DRASA Health Trust is a public health organization working with government, local and international partners, community leaders, students, and health workers to promote hygiene and adequate sanitati

on, reduce and prevent the spread of infectious diseases, and strengthen Nigeria’s preparedness for health emergencies. She identified and contained Nigeria's first Ebola patient despite pressure from a foreign government to release him - preventing a major outbreak in Africa's most populous country - but lost her life in the process. Through DRASA, we continue her legacy of protecting public health.

Health security starts with people.

In Bwari Area Council of Nigeria's Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, DRASA equipped 124 Health Champions to strengthen disease surveillance in their communities, through the Strengthening Community Participation for Disease Prevention and Early Detection (SCOPED) intervention. Today, they are better prepared to recognize, report, and respond to public health threats because stronger communities begin with informed people.

One training. One nurse. Countless lives protected.

She walked into the Turn-A-State-Orange Infection Prevention and Control programme expecting to learn. She left with a new perspective on what it truly means to protect patients.

Today, she returns to her hospital with renewed purpose, ready to put those lessons into practice and help prevent hospital acquired infections before they happen.

Because when healthcare workers become Health Champions, safer hospitals become possible.

Disease prevention starts with the communication that people can actually understand.

The best health messages are not just scientifically accurate. They are local, familiar, and spoken in the language of the people they are intended for.

When communities understand disease risks in words that make sense to them, they are more likely to take actions that save lives.

That is the idea behind the Say AMR Hackathon by the Dr. Ameyo Stella Adadevoh (DRASA) Health Trust. We are bringing together university students from different disciplines to translate antimicrobial resistance (AMR) into Hausa, Igbo, Yoruba, and Nigerian Pidgin, making this critical public health issue easier for millions of Nigerians to understand and act on.

Because health information should never get lost in translation.

The strongest validation doesn't always come from applause.

Sometimes, it comes from government saying, "Let's scale this."

At the Infection Prevention and Control Coordination Meeting in Nigeria's Federal Capital Territory (FCT), the Dr. Ameyo Stella Adadevoh (DRASA) Health Trust presented an innovative financing model that enables primary healthcare facilities to sustain infection prevention and control activities beyond donor funding.

The response was immediate.

The FCT Hospitals Management Board described the approach as practical and innovative and expressed interest in promoting it across health facilities in the FCT.

This is how we build resilient health systems: through solutions that governments are ready to own and scale.

Lassa fever is preventable, and early action can save lives.

Simple actions like storing food in tightly covered containers, wet sweeping your floors to reduce dust, sealing holes where rats can enter, and seeking care early if a fever doesn't improve can help protect you and your community.

The Dr. Ameyo Stella Adadevoh (DRASA) Health Trust, in collaboration with the Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC), the Federal Ministry of Environment, the Federal Ministry of Livestock Development and the Alliance for Sustainable Livestock (ASL), is convening the One Health Strategic Plan (OHSP) Gap Analysis and Validation Workshop.

Under the theme, "Identifying Gaps, Validating Priorities, and Co-creating a Roadmap for Meaningful Youth Engagement in Nigeria's One Health Governance," the workshop will bring together young leaders and key stakeholders to strengthen meaningful youth engagement in shaping Nigeria's One Health agenda.

Through the Youth PALLI One Health Hackathon, Dr. Ameyo Stella Adadevoh (DRASA) Health Trust brought together and equipped young leaders to develop innovative solutions to some of today's most pressing public health challenges.

As we prepare to welcome the next cohort, we're growing a network of Health Champions committed to advancing One Health and strengthening health security across Nigeria because no one should suffer from preventable infectious diseases.

"I learned that not every fever is malaria." - One of the trained Community Health Champions during the Strengthening Community Participation for Disease Prevention & Early Detection (SCOPED) program in Oyo State.

Through the Dr. Ameyo Stella Adadevoh (DRASA) Health Trust's SCOPED model, Community Health Champions gained the confidence to recognize suspected Lassa fever cases and encourage early reporting, strengthening community based surveillance.
