One night, Onyinye couldn’t hold it anymore.

She held his phone, walked to him, and said softly,
“Who is she?”

Amobi looked confused.
“She is just a colleague.”

Her eyes filled with tears.
“It may be nothing… but it hurts. I miss us, Amobi.”

For the first time in weeks, he truly looked at her—
the woman who once fought sickness with him,
the woman whose tears he wiped,
the friend he once laughed with under the rain.

His heart melted.
He sat down and held her hands carefully.

“Nothing is happening. I didn’t know you felt threatened. I’m sorry for making you feel alone. I am drowning too, Onyinye… but I didn’t know how to say it.”

Their tears flowed together—
not from betrayal,
but from accumulated pain.

They stayed awake for hours, talking like they had not talked in months.

She worried—thinking something was wrong.

Amobi finally returned home late, exhausted, stressed, overwhelmed.
Before he could explain, Onyinye asked sharply,
“Why didn’t you pick my calls?”

Her tone came from fear.
His reaction came from frustration.

“I am tired, Onyinye! Must everything become a complaint?”

It was the first time he raised his voice.
The words hung in the air like smoke.
They wounded them both.

That night, they slept in the same room…
but with hearts turned away 💔 from each other.

In the days that followed, Onyinye confided in her close friend, Amara.
But instead of helping, Amara planted seeds of doubt:

Responsibilities increased.

Yet every night, Amobi still checked if she had eaten.
Every morning, Onyinye still prayed for him before he left.
They still held hands during difficult days.
They still talked like the friends they began as.

Onyinye often watched him while he played with the children and whispered to herself:
