What is a Glucose Drink?
It's a fast-energy drink made from D-Glucose (dextrose) dissolved in water, plus flavor, citric acid, and sometimes electrolytes.
Brand examples you know in PH: Lucozade Energy, Glucose-D, Extra Joss, 5 Alive Glucose.
Why it works
- Glucose is the simplest sugar— no digestion needed. It goes straight from gut to blood in 5-10 mins.
- Gives instant ATP (energy) to brain and muscles.
2 Main Types

- 99% dextrose monohydrate
- You mix with water
- Used for: weakness, low sugar, after illness, for kids
*2. Glucose Energy Drink (like Lucozade)*
- Glucose + caffeine + carbonated water
- Used for: sports, fatigue, hangover boost
- Higher sugar, not for daily use
Composition (per 100ml typical)
- Glucose: 10-15g
- Calories: 40-60 kcal
- Electrolytes: small sodium, potassium (in ORS type)
- No fat, no protein
Uses

- Don't replace water with it — too much sugar causes thirst.
- 1-2 glasses a day is enough. Excess = weight gain.
- For dehydration, ORS is better than pure glucose— because ORS has salt that holds wat er
