I just came across a clip of a surgical team in Japan during a huge earthquake, and it completely blew me away.
They were right in the middle of a major abdominal operation when the room started violently shaking, with monitors swinging all over the place.
Normally people would drop everything and run for safety and you couldn't really blame them because the rule also says make sure the surrounding is safe for yourself.
However, nobody in that OR flinched.
Rather than running for the exits, the entire team immediately shielded the open patient with their own bodies, holding equipment still and keeping everything controlled through total chaos. They didn't step back for even a moment.
Seeing that kind of split-second commitment to protecting a human life is incredible.
It takes insane bravery to put someone else's survival above your own like that. Absolute respect to health workers who step up like this when things go south.❤️
