DR. AFOLABI URGES YOUTHS TO PRIORITIZE MENTAL HEALTH FOR ACADEMIC EXCELLENCE AT ADELEKE UNIVERSITY SCHOOLS GRADUATION.

The Chief Medical Director of UNIOSUN Teaching Hospital, Osogbo, Dr. Babatunde Afolabi, has called on youths to take their mental health seriously, saying it plays a critical role in academic performance and overall life success.

Dr. Afolabi made this call while delivering a lecture on _“Student Mental Health and Stress Management”_ at the 9th Graduation and Award Ceremony of the 2026 Set of Adeleke University Schools, Ede, Osun State.

Defining mental health, the CMD said it _“entails how we interact with people, how we think, how we cope with stress, how we take decisions and how we control our emotions.”_

He noted that while there is no stress-free life, the way challenges are managed makes the difference.
_“As a Physician, I have discovered that a lot of people are suffering silently from mental stress,”_ he said. _“That is why it is important for you to build resilience early.”_

Dr. Afolabi highlighted common causes of mental stress among students to include fear of failure, non-assimilation of studies and an unstable state of mind. He introduced the “STRONG” Principles to the graduands and charged them to put God first, Choose their friends wisely, Stay away from illicit drugs and substances, Be empathetic, Always show gratitude, Be a person of integrity

He further urged the graduands to be positive influences in society and to cultivate a global mindset for knowledge acquisition.
_“Always avail yourselves with the mind of gaining knowledge globally. It will help you in shaping your future,”_ he advised.

The CMD also appealed to parents and guardians to actively monitor their children and wards, give them emotional and financial support, avoid unnecessary comparisons, and maintain open communication with them.

In his remarks, Dr. Afolabi specially appreciated the Chairman of Council, Proprietor/Pro-Chancellor of Adeleke University Schools, Dr. Adedeji Adeleke, and the Proprietress/Director of Adeleke University Ventures, Yeyeluwa Modupe Adeleke Sanni, for their commitment to shaping future generations.
He described them as _“a shining light who have brought Academic Excellence to the school through unwavering dedication to standard education and philanthropic gesture.”_

The ceremony featured the graduation of the 2026 set, presentation of awards to outstanding students, Cultural display and goodwill messages from stakeholders.

The event was attended by dignitaries including Dr. Mrs. Adebimpe Afolabi, a Consultant Paediatric Cardiologist and wife of the Chief Medical Director.

CHARTERHOUSE PHARMACEUTICAL LIMITED DELEGATES VISITS UNIOSUN TEACHING HOSPITAL FOR MUTUAL PARTNERSHIP.

The Chief Medical Director of UNIOSUN Teaching Hospital Osogbo, Dr Babatunde Afolabi welcomed the delegation and thanked the Company for its interest in partnering with the Institution stressing that, collaborations between the hospital and Charterhouse pharmaceutical Limited and Afrihealth Solutions and Medical Services will play a vital role in improving patient's outcomes and promoting quality health care services.

Dr. Afolabi assured the Chief Executive Officer of Charterhouse Pharmaceutics Limited and Afrihealth Solutions and Medical Services, Omooba Opeyemi Abidemi Oyinlola of the hospital's collaboration and partnership with the hospital.

The CMD added that the hospital remains committed to partnerships that align with the vision and mission statement of the hospital, he therefore assured the delegation of good and positive working relationships.

While speaking with the Management Committee the CEO Omooba Opeyemi Oyinlola promised that their partnership with the hospital will help bridge the gap between the patient and the society at large in the health sector. He emphasized that the company is registered under both National and International Medical bodies respectively.

Also the Southwest Liaison Officer of the pharmaceutical company, Dr Emmanuel Awopetu disclosed that the company also deals with various medical and laboratory equipments as well as pharmaceutical drugs, adding that the purpose of the company is to improve the quality of life of indigenes and help drive out malaria in the society.

UNIOSUN TEACHING HOSPITAL MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE HOLDS 3-DAY RETREAT, PAYS OFFICIAL VISIT TO FIDSON HEALTHCARE PLC.

As part of efforts to motivate the Management Committee and enhance strategic direction, the Management of UNIOSUN Teaching Hospital, Osogbo concluded a 3-day retreat for members of Management.

The retreat created room for in-depth discussions on service delivery, Institutional growth and staff welfare.

As part of the retreat activities, the Management also paid an official visit to Fidson Healthcare Plc Company, Idiroko, Ota, Ogun State to explore areas of collaboration in pharmaceutical supply and healthcare delivery.

The Deputy General Manager of Fidson Healthcare Plc, Mrs Bunmi Ajaguna and the Assistant General Manager, Mr Chidi Ezeoba welcomed the hospital delegation and appreciated them for choosing the company. He stated that Fidson is ready to collaborate with UNIOSUN Teaching Hospital just as it is currently doing with other teaching hospitals such as FMC Asaba, LUTH, and UCH.

The duo highlighted some of the products manufactured by the company including IV fluids, syrups, eye drops, sachet drugs, and creams. He disclosed that the company undergoes routine inspection by NAFDAC to ensure compliance with quality and safety standards.
He further revealed that the company started on a seven(7) -hectare expanse of land and has now expanded to fifty (50) hectares, with a workforce capacity of over 1,300 personnel.

The Managing Director, Mr. Biola Adebayo assured the Management that their request will be attended to for a positive result.

In his remarks, the Chief Medical Director, Dr. Babatunde Afolabi appreciated the Management of Fidson Healthcare Plc for the warm reception.

Dr. Afolabi stated that the hospital Management is willing to collaborate with the company in providing efficient and quality drugs to the hospital for improved patient care,
he also conveyed the goodwill message of the Board Chairman to the Management of the company, reaffirming the hospital's support for strategic partnerships that will advance healthcare delivery in the hospital.

Members of the Management Committee commended Fidson Pharmaceuticals for its commitment to local drug manufacturing and expressed optimism that the partnership will improve drug availability and affordability for patients in the Hospital.

Part of the activities is a tour of the production facilities and exchange of pleasantries.

NEWLY ELECTED EXECUTIVE OF THE ASSOCIATION OF MEDICAL LABORATORY SCIENTISTS OF NIGERIA VISITS THE CMD

The newly elected Executive of the Association of Medical Laboratory Scientists of Nigeria (AMLSN) paid a Courtesy visit to the Chief Medical Director, UNIOSUN Teaching Hospital, Osogbo recently.

The new Chairman of the Association, MLS Ibukun Komolafe who led the Executive disclosed that the purpose of the visit is to introduce the new Executive to the CMD and to solicit for the Management's support throughout their tenure of three (3) years.

MLS Komolafe appreciated the CMD for being a father to all and for transforming the hospital with the limited resources available.

In his reaction, the Chief Medical Director, Dr. Babatunde Afolabi congratulated the new Executive and urged them to stand by the mandate that brought them to the office adding that the office is temporary but the impact after the tenure of office is what matters.

He pleaded with the new Executive to appeal to their members to put more effort into their work in order to make the hospital a better place and the envy of other Tertiary Health Institutions in the country.

While assuring the Executive of the Management's support, he explained that his office is widely opened for suggestions, criticisms and observations.

DELEGATION FROM WHO/ MINISTRY OF HEALTH VISITS UNIOSUN TEACHING HOSPITAL, OSOGBO AHEAD OF LABORATORY GAP ASSESSMENT EXERCISE

A delegation from the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare, in collaboration with the National AIDS, Viral Hepatitis and STIs Control Programme paid a working visit to the hospital recently to invite and notify the hospital of the Laboratory Gap Assessment Exercise organized by Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare with the support from the World Health Organization (WHO)

Speaking during the visit, the leader of the delegation Mr. Hamzat Omotayo commended the hospital Management for their dedication to providing quality healthcare services disclosing that the visit is aimed to notify the management of the plans of the Ministry of Health to conduct Laboratory Gap Assessment across selected states and its ongoing efforts to strengthen Nigeria's laboratory system and advance national health security priorities.

Mr. Omotayo emphasized that the assessment exercise which is scheduled to hold from 13th to 17th July 2026 is designed to identify gaps, challenges and opportunities across laboratory networks also to evaluate existing capacities and generate evidence to guide strategic planning and targeted interventions for sustainable improvement of laboratory services nationwide.

In his response, the Chief Medical Director, Dr. Babatunde Afolabi welcomed the delegation and expressed appreciation for the advance notification.

The CMD reaffirmed the hospital's continuous commitment to collaborating with the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare and NASCP in its efforts to strengthen laboratory systems and improving healthcare delivery assuring the delegation of its readiness to cooperate fully during the laboratory gap assessment exercise.

While expressing confidence that the findings would contribute to improving laboratory services and patient care, Dr. Afolabi further solicited the support of the Ministry in the acquisition of modern high tech equipment at the Histopathology, the Blood Bank of the hospital and the upgrade of the hospital morgue.

In attendance were the Head, IHVN Department, Prof. Victor Mabayoje, Head, Medical Laboratory Service, Mrs Hassan, Dr. Tijani Busira Adesina and other members of the team from the Ministry of Health.

Dr. AFOLABI COMMENDS JNC INTERNATIONAL LIMITED FOR THE ANAESTHESIA/ICU STAFF TRAINING.

The Chief Medical Director, UNIOSUN Teaching Hospital, Osogbo, Dr. Babatunde Afolabi has commended the Clinical Training Specialists from the JNC International Limited for the high level of professionalism displayed during the recently concluded training for the staff of the Anaesthesia/ICU on the use of the newly donated and supplied Ventilators.

Dr. Afolabi gave the commendation during a visit of the team led by Mrs Adeola Olafimihan to his office. He urged the team to periodically visit the hospital to check on the state of the equipment and to organize more training for the staff of the department.

The CMD revealed that the hospital Management has already secured approval for the commencement of full use of the new Ventilators adding that periodic report will be sent to the donors, Pastor and Mrs Enoch and Folu Adeboye on the performance of the Ventilators.

While responding, the Team Leader of JNC International Limited, Mrs Adeola Olafimihan emphasized the importance of maintenance to ensure the longevity of the Ventilators. She promised that the JNCI teamwork will schedule Optimization Visit to check on the equipment and organize a retraining of the staff which is part of the organization's contribution to healthcare.

Mrs Olafimihan also expressed the willingness of the organization to support the hospital in whatever capacity as the need arises.

A gift was presented by the organization to the Management of the hospital as a token of appreciation for the warm welcome and hospitality accorded them throughout their stay.

Also present at the meeting were the Deputy CMAC Clinical, Dr Emmanuel Folami, Director of Works and Services, Engr Olanrewaju Oladunjoye and other members of the JNC International Limited Team.

JNC INTERNATIONAL LIMITED TRAINS ANAESTHESIA/ICU STAFF OF UTHO

Members of staff of the Anaesthesia/ICU Department played host to the Clinical Training Specialists from the JNC International Limited who supplied the newly donated Ventilators for the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the hospital.

The team leader from the JNC International Limited, Mrs Adeola Olafimihan said the essence of the training is to ensure that the staff are made conversant with the globally acceptable standard on the use and care of the new ventilators.

Mrs Olafimihan took the participants through a detailed, thorough and practical training on the use of the recently supplied Ventilators while the participants asked questions in gray areas in the course of the training.

In a chat with the Media Team of the hospital, the Chief Medical Director, Dr. Babatunde Afolabi appreciated the JNC Team for making time to train the staff. He implored the end users to apply the training in carrying out their duties in the ICU.

The CMD also urged the staff to make good use of the equipment and ensure that they are well maintained.

In a reaction, the Deputy CMAC, Clinicals, Dr. Emmanuel Folami disclosed that the training is organized to acquaint the staff of the ICU with the correct use of the new Ventilators for optimum use adding that the ICU will begin full operations by admitting more patients after the training which.

It would be recalled that the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church, Pastor Enoch Adeboye and his wife, Mrs Folu Adeboye recently made a donation worth over Three Hundred and Eighty Million Naira to the hospital by equipping the ICU.

Also present at the training were the Director of Nursing Services, Mrs Beatrice Anihuntodun, Deputy Director of Nursing Services (Administration), Mrs Oluyemisi Akinleye, members of the JNC team and Anaesthesia/ICU staff.

THE NEWLY APPOINTED DIRECTOR OF THE CODE OF CONDUCT BUREAU VISITS UTHO: calls for a periodic Asset Declaration.

Members of Staff of UNIOSUN Teaching Hospital, Osogbo have been called upon to make periodic asset declaration a matter of duty as expected of Public Officers in the country.

The newly appointed State Director of the Osun State Code of Conduct Bureau(CCB), Mr. Stephen Afolami made the call during a courtesy visit to the Management of the hospital recently. He said the purpose of his visit is to familiarize with the leadership of the hospital and to form a synergy with the Institution for a successful tenure.

Mr. Afolami reiterated the importance of honesty, transparency and accountability among Public Officers and the vision of the bureau to eradicate corrupt practices among civil servants as enshrined in the constitution and ensuring that all public officers comply with the civil service rules failure of which various sanctions are enforced.

The new Director appealed for the cooperation of the hospital management and staff like his predecessor had for a seamless tenure of office.

In his response, the Chief Medical Director, Dr. Babatunde Afolabi appreciated the new Director for the visit and described him as a unique personality who is humble and lovable.
He added that both institutions are partners in progress and assured him of his unalloyed cooperation and support just like his predecessor had with the hospital.

Dr. Afolabi also expressed the readiness of the hospital's Management and staff to abide by the rules of the Bureau adding that his office is wide open for the new Director at any time.

In his comment, the Chairman Medical Advisory Committee (CMAC), Dr. Olufemi Ala appreciated the new director for the visit and assured him that under the able leadership of the CMD, the hospital will do the needful.

In his reaction, the Director of Administration, Dr. Oladepo Owolade disclosed that the visit will help in ensuring a synergy between the Bureau and the hospital as well as to know the expectation of the Bureau from the hospital.
He promised that the staff will live up to expectation by being law abiding.

Dr. Owolade also urged the Bureau to revisit the hospital in order to enlighten the members of Staff on what is expected of them and the activities of the Bureau.

Dr. BABATUNDE AFOLABI BAGS NELSON MANDELA INTERNATIONAL LEADERSHIP AWARD, INDUCTED INTO HALL OF FAME

The Chief Medical Director of UNIOSUN Teaching Hospital, Osogbo, Dr. Babatunde Afolabi, has been honoured with the prestigious Nelson Mandela International Leadership Award for his exemplary leadership and outstanding contributions to healthcare delivery in Nigeria.

The award ceremony which was held at the White Plain Hotel & Suites witness top Government Officials, Health Sector Stakeholders, Civil Society leaders, and members of the academia in attendance.

Dr. Afolabi, while receiving the award, dedicated it to God Almighty, the Executive Governor of Osun State, Senator Ademola Jackson Nurudeen Adeleke and the Management Committee of the hospital . He said the recognition would not have been possible without the Governor’s commitment to the health sector and the teamwork of the hospital’s Management Committee and staff.

In addition to the award, the CMD was also inducted into the Hall of Fame as International Human Right Africam Medical Personnel and Royal Ambassador by the International Peace Human Rights Education Council in recognition of his consistent service, innovation in public health outreach, and dedication to making quality healthcare accessible to the people of Osun State.

Speaking after the investiture, Dr. Afolabi reaffirmed his commitment to the ideals of the late Nelson Mandela, noting that leadership must be people-centered, compassionate and focused on service to humanity. He pledged to use the honour as motivation to do more in expanding specialist care, health outreach programmes and institutional reforms at the hospital.

The Nelson Mandela International Leadership Award celebrates leaders who demonstrate integrity, vision, and impact in their various fields across Africa and beyond.

UNITED STATES CENTER FOR DISEASE CONTROL AND PREVENTION (US CDC) DELEGATION COMMENDS THE MANAGEMENT OF UNIOSUN TEACHING HOSPITAL'S REMARKABLE TRANSFORMATION.

A delegation from the United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (US CDC) has lauded the management of the hospital for the remarkable transformation and significant improvements recorded within the hospital.

The delegation made the commendation during a courtesy and facility assessment visit to the office of the Chief Medical Director, Dr. Babatunde Afolabi.

Speaking on behalf of the delegation, the USCDC team leader Mr. Chukwudi Onwuchekwa appreciated and commended the management committee of the hospital for promoting quality health care delivery in the hospital.

Mr. Onwuchekwa emphasized that the organization ' s major aim is to give technical support to the hospital by strengthening collaboration in public health, disease surveillance and providing comprehensive feedback on ethics to the hospital beneficiaries.

He added that collaboration and partnerships with the hospital will help in addressing various health challenges in the society and plays a vital role in strengthening disease surveillance systems and improving outbreak responses.

In his response, the Chief Medical Director, Dr. Babatunde Afolabi expressed appreciation to the US CDC for its longstanding support in strengthening health systems and improving public health outcomes.

Dr. Afolabi disclosed that the hospital is committed to providing quality health care delivery in patient care, adding that partnerships with international organizations will yield a very Impactful partnership, saying that the partnership would benefit both institutions and the society at large .
