Have you ever heard someone say, “Doctor asked me to do PSA test” and you wondered what it means?

PSA means Prostate Specific Antigen.

It is a simple blood test used to check the health of the prostate — a small gland found in men.

Why is this test important?

As men grow older, the prostate can develop problems that may affect urination and overall health.

A PSA test helps doctors detect prostate problems early.

You should do this test if you are fall within this category:

_Men above 40 years.
_ Men with family history of prostate problems.
_ Men experiencing urinary symptoms.

Common symptoms that indicates you need to do the test:

_ frequent urination
_ difficulty passing urine
_ weak urine flow
_ waking up often at night to urinate
_ pain or discomfort during urination

How is the test done?
A small blood sample is collected from your arm and taken to the laboratory for analysis.
It is fast and simple.

What does PSA test check for?

The test helps detect _possible prostate enlargement, _inflammation, or _prostate cancer.

Important to know:
An abnormal PSA result does not automatically mean cancer.

That is why proper medical interpretation is important.

Tips before the test:
_ Avoid ej*******on 24–48 hours before the test
_ Inform your doctor about any prostate medications.

Many prostate problems can be managed better when discovered early.

Dear men, do not ignore changes in your urination pattern.

Your health matters.

People that are drawn to licking nzu almost always has low blood level _ but it is not always the case.

In Nigeria, many people notice that when they start craving nzu (calabash chalk), ice, sand, clay, or other non-food substances, they later discover they have low blood level (anaemia) or low iron.

This condition is called Pica — a strong craving for things that are not actual food.

Common reasons it may happen include:
1_ Iron deficiency anaemia
This is one of the most common causes.
People with low iron may suddenly crave:
* Nzu
* Clay
* Ice
* Dust/chalk

2_ Pregnancy
Some pregnant women develop cravings because their body’s nutritional needs increase, especially iron and minerals.

3_ Poor nutrition or vitamin deficiency
Low intake of iron, zinc, or certain nutrients may contribute.

4_ Cultural habit or emotional comfort
Some people grew up eating nzu and continue out of habit, stress relief, or preference — even without anaemia.

However, it is important to know this:
Eating nzu regularly is not healthy, especially in large amounts.
It may:
* Reduce iron absorption even more
* Worsen anaemia
* Cause constipation
* Introduce harmful substances like lead or harmful bacteria
* Affect the stomach and intestines

So if someone suddenly starts craving nzu excessively, especially alongside symptoms like:
* Tiredness
* Dizziness
* Pale skin
* Shortness of breath
* Weakness
* Fast heartbeat

…then it is wise to check:
* Packed Cell Volume (PCV) / Haemoglobin
* Iron level
* Full Blood Count (FBC)

The body sometimes gives subtle signs when something is wrong. Persistent craving for non-food items should not be ignored.

A balanced diet rich in:
* Green vegetables
* Beans
* Liver
* Fish
* Meat
* Fruits rich in vitamin C
…can help improve iron levels naturally.

So in summary:
The statement is not 100% true for everybody, but craving nzu can indeed be a possible sign of low blood level or iron deficiency, and it is worth investigating professionally.

I was gifted this beautiful lapel pin during our meeting.
The pin is from Association of Female Medical Lab Scientist (AFMLS).

You can see our motto inscribed in the pin: SEARCHLIGHT OF HEALTHCARE.

Wondering why Medical Laboratory Scientists are called the searchlight of Healthcare?

Unarguably, we are the Searchlight of Healthcare because we help “UNCOVER WHAT THE EYES CANNOT SEE”

Before many diseases can be treated properly, they must first be detected accurately. That is where the Medical Laboratory Scientist comes in.

We analyze blood, urine, stool, tissues, and other body samples to help doctors:
_detect infections
_diagnose diseases
_monitor treatment
_prevent complications
_ and save lives at the end.

From malaria to diabetes, kidney disease, hepatitis, hormonal imbalance, cancer, infertility, and many other health conditions… laboratory tests help reveal the hidden truth about a patient’s health.

Without proper laboratory investigation, treatment can become guesswork.

Medical Laboratory Scientists work behind the scenes, but our impact is seen in every accurate diagnosis and successful treatment.

We are proud to be the SEARCHLIGHT OF HEALTHCARE.

He said he drinks 3 to 6 bottles of mineral everyday.

I was not sure I heard him well so I asked him to repeat himself. He said the same thing and added that one particular woman has stopped selling to him. She will always tell him “i don’t have”, with a bombastic side eyes but he would go another place and buy.

I had to sit him down and explain what happens to his body in a very simple way.

A normal result today does not mean you are safe if the habit continues.
Read and learn.

This is What Happens When You Drink Bottles of Coke Daily;
Each bottle of coke contains a large amount of sugar.
When you drink it:
1. The sugar quickly enters your blood.
2. Your body releases a hormone called insulin to push that sugar into your cells.
3. This happens every single time you drink soda.
When this occurs many times every day, for months or years, your body becomes overworked.

So even as his sugar level is still normal values now, with time, everything will fall apart.

Here is The Hidden Danger (Why Diabetes Develops Later)
Think of insulin like a key that opens your body’s cells.
👉 At first, the key works well.
👉 But too much sugar every day makes the body stop responding properly.

This is called: Insulin Resistance
It means:
• Your body still produces insulin
• but your cells stop listening to it.
So the pancreas starts working harder and harder.
Over time:
• The pancreas becomes tired
• Sugar begins to stay in the blood,
• Diabetes develops.
This process can take years, which is why your test can still be normal now.

This is Why Soft Drinks Are Especially Dangerous
Liquid sugar is more harmful than food sugar because:
✅ It enters the blood very fast
✅ It does not make you feel full
✅ You consume large sugar amounts without noticing
✅ It causes fat buildup around the liver and abdomen

I told him that One bottle occasionally is different from 3–5 bottles daily, which exposes your body to constant sugar spikes.

This are the Possible Future Health Problems If you Continues with the habit 👇

Even before diabetes appears, excess sugary drinks can cause
• Weight gain (especially belly fat)
• Fatty liver disease
• High blood pressure
• High cholesterol
• Reduced energy levels
• Increased risk of heart disease
• Early diabetes (sometimes before age 40)

I concluded with The Most Important Thing to Understand👇
Diabetes does not start the day sugar becomes high.
It starts quietly many years earlier through lifestyle habits . So the earlier you stop the poor diet choices, the better.

If you are struggling with such habits too, here are Simple Steps to follow ;
You don’t need to stop everything overnight.
Start like this:
1. Reduce coke gradually.
2. Replace with:
• Water
• Zobo without excess sugar/ sweetener
• Unsweetened drinks
3. Eat real meals instead of sugary drinks for energy.
4. Check your sugar once or twice yearly.

Finally, your lab results may still be normal today even as you continue with an unhealthy life style and diet, it shows your body is still coping — but it is under stress.
Tomorrow, it may be too late.

Prevention, they said, is better than cure.
I hope you learned something from my sesson with him.

That is why it’s called Artificial intelligence.
If you continue using Chat GPT for your work and daily activities, it remembers .

Tell it to create a semi_realistic caricature of yourself and job based on everything it knows about you, it will create just that.

This is me as a Medical Lab Scientist in my lab Betclaire laboratories

All you need to do is,
Go to your chat GPT, upload a clear picture of yourself. Then give it this exact prompt

“ create a semi_realistic caricature of me and my job based on everything you know about me”

Watch it so the magic.
Try it now and show us in the comment section.
