MYTH VS FACT: "Fruits Have Too Much Sugar!"
few weeks ago, while I was enjoying a bowl of fruit salad, a friend of mine visited to give me a gift she got from her trip, I was so happy and carried away by the gift that I never knew her countenance has changed. When I noticed she wasn't responding to my talk, I looked up and was correct with my observation then I asked what the issue could be but surprisingly her reply made me almost fainted with laughter.
she looked at the bowl of fresh fruit and said,
"I stopped eating fruits because I heard they contain too much sugar. I don't want to gain weights".
This state made me realize that more awareness and teachings needs to done about fruits and it healthy consumption.
Well to burst your bubble, this friend of mine can comfortably drink 3 bottles of coke at a stretch.
Now tell me which contains more sugar
Isn't that how many of us have been misled?
Fruits are unhealthy because they contain sugar. That's a lie!
FACT: The sugar in whole fruits is natural. Fruits also contain fiber, vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, and water. The fiber helps your body absorb the natural sugar more gradually, making whole fruits very different from sugary drinks and many processed snacks.
Instead of fearing fruits, focus on eating them in reasonable portions as part of a balanced diet. If you have a medical condition such as diabetes, speak with your healthcare provider about the types and amounts of fruit that are best for you.
