Lifeboat Healing and Health Center My Calling
I have always believed that the Creator's greatest gifts are found in two places: the pages of Scripture and the soil of the earth. Why This Blog?

Join me as we explore Biblical teachings, herbal recipes, and the beauty of a life of Sound Health About Pastor Herbalist Edward Freedom
Welcome
Hello, and welcome to my corner of the internet. My name is Edward Freedom. To some, I am Pastor Edward—a shepherd of souls and a student of the Word. To others, I am Herbalist Edward—a steward of the earth and a believer in the healing power of nature. But to you, I hope to be a friend and a guide on a journey toward wholeness. For years, I have walked the path of ministry, counselling those in need and pointing them toward spiritual peace. Alongside that calling, I have spent decades studying the properties of plants, roots, and natural remedies, learning how to use them to support the body. My life is a testimony that healing isn't just about treating a symptom—it's about nourishing the soul and the body in harmony. Here on this blog, I bridge that gap. I share the wisdom I have gathered over the years, blending the spiritual with the natural. My Philosophy
My life's work is rooted in the belief that we are "fearfully and wonderfully made" (Psalm 139:14), and that we are surrounded by everything we need to sustain that wonderful creation.
• The Spirit: We need the Word to renew our minds and give us peace.
• The Body: We need the earth to nourish and heal our physical temples. I am a passionate herbalist dedicated to harnessing the healing power of nature. My work blends traditional wisdom with modern understanding to create natural remedies that restore balance and vitality. Through careful study of plants and their properties, I help people find gentle, effective solutions for wellness—from soothing teas to healing oils and tinctures. My mission is to promote holistic health, guiding others toward harmony between body, mind, and nature. I created this blog to be a resource for those who are tired of the synthetic and the superficial. I want to help you detox your life—spiritually and physically. Join me as we explore Biblical teachings, herbal recipes, and the beauty of a life lived in sync with nature. When you heal the soul, you strengthen the body, and when you nurture the body, you free the soul to worship. A Little More About Me
I love the quiet mornings in my garden, the scent of herbs drying in the rafters, and the sound of a congregation singing. I love Nature because it is the visible expression of God's love, and I love Natural Medicine because it is the tangible touch of His grace. Thank You
Thank you for stopping by. Whether you are here for a prayer, a remedy, or simply a moment of peace, you are welcome here. In Faith and Health,
Pastor Edward Freedom

AT 89, I STILL EXERCISE — OBASANJO

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo says regular exercise keeps the elderly fit. At 89, despite living with diabetes for over 40 years, he remains active.

Speaking at the 2026 FirstBank/OBJ Golf Tournament in Abeokuta, he shared his DREAMS + C principle:

D - Diet: Eat healthy
R - Rest: Good rest
E - Exercise: Regular exercise
M - Medical: Check-ups & medications
S - Social: Interact with people (He has a Senior Citizens Club at OOPL, minimum age 70)
C - Contentment: Be content, avoid over-ambition

He said: "Exercise is very important at every age, and even more important when you become a senior citizen." He plays squash 3x a week and does a 15-min brisk walk.

He also led a walk for World Diabetes Day to promote healthy living.

No excuse for us younger ones. Move your body daily!

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo on Saturday urged Nigerians to embrace healthy living through proper diet, regular exercise and routine medical check-ups, saying the lifestyle choices had helped him remain active at 89, despite battling diabetes for over four decades.

PRESSURE FROM RELATIVES STOPS EXCLUSIVE BREASTFEEDING — GOMBE MOTHERS CRY OUT

As World Breastfeeding Week 2026 is marked, mothers in Gombe State say relatives are stopping them from exclusively breastfeeding.

Mothers like Mary Musa shared that her mother-in-law insisted her baby must drink water, saying "nothing happened to my own children." After giving water, the baby started crying less for breast milk and preferred water.

Health workers at Town Maternity & Tudunwada PHC say:

Breast milk is 88% water — baby does NOT need extra water for 6 months
Giving water can cause diarrhea & infections if water is not clean
Exclusive breastfeeding protects against diarrhea, pneumonia & malnutrition
Start breastfeeding within 1 hour of birth, first milk (colostrum) is baby's first vaccine
Mothers who resisted pressure and did 6 months exclusive breastfeeding say their babies are healthier.

Advice: Thank relatives for care, but explain doctor's advice is ONLY breast milk for first 6 months. Visit your PHC for support.

MYTH BUSTED: Pap & Palm W**e Won't Boost Breast Milk!

Many Nigerian mothers believe drinking pap (ogi/akamu) and palm w**e after childbirth increases breast milk. Nutritionists say there is NO scientific evidence for this.

According to Professors Beatrice Ogunba (OAU) and Olivia Afam-Anene (IMSU), pap only helps because it's a liquid — it keeps you hydrated like water does. Palm w**e does NOT boost milk flow.

What REALLY boosts breast milk?
✅ Frequent breastfeeding — every 2-3 hours, at least 8 times in 24hrs
✅ Good latching & emptying both breasts
✅ Drinking enough WATER (not pap/palm w**e)
✅ Eating healthy — proteins, whole grains, fruits & vegetables
✅ Staying relaxed

Breast milk remains the best food for babies in the first 6 months. Don't waste money on "Lactation Pap" or "Milk Booster" pap sold online.

❤️ WHAT TO DO WHEN YOU ARE IN CHARGE OF A SICK LOVED ONE
When someone you love becomes sick, the responsibility can be overwhelming. You may suddenly become a caregiver, advocate, decision-maker and emotional support—all at once.
Here are some practical things to remember:
1. 🩺 DON'T PANIC—ASSESS THE SITUATION
Stay calm and find out what is actually wrong. Know the person's symptoms, medications, allergies and medical history.
2. 🏥 KNOW WHEN TO SEEK MEDICAL HELP
Don't rely solely on home remedies when professional care is needed. Seek urgent medical attention for serious or rapidly worsening symptoms, difficulty breathing, chest pain, severe confusion, seizures, unconsciousness or other alarming changes.
3. 💊 KEEP A RECORD OF MEDICATIONS
Write down every medicine, supplement or herbal preparation the person takes—including the dose and timing. Don't add or stop medicines without appropriate medical advice.
4. 💧 HELP WITH BASIC NEEDS
Depending on their condition, help them maintain appropriate fluids, nutrition, rest, hygiene and comfort. Follow the healthcare professional's instructions, especially when the person has restrictions on food or fluids.
5. 📝 ASK QUESTIONS
When speaking with healthcare professionals, don't be afraid to ask:
What is the diagnosis?
What treatment is being given?
What should we watch for?
When should we come back?
What symptoms mean we should seek emergency care?
Understanding the plan makes you a better caregiver.
6. ❤️ DON'T FORGET THE PERSON'S EMOTIONAL NEEDS
A sick person may feel afraid, frustrated, helpless or lonely.
Sometimes they don't need another lecture.
They need someone to sit beside them and say:
“I'm here with you. We're going to take this one step at a time.”
7. 🤝 DON'T CARRY EVERYTHING ALONE
Ask family members or trusted people for help.
One person can handle appointments.
Another can prepare meals.
Another can help with transportation.
Caregiving is a responsibility—not a one-person competition.
8. 🌿 BE CAREFUL WITH HERBS AND HOME REMEDIES
“Natural” does not automatically mean “safe.”
Some herbs can interact with prescription medicines or be inappropriate for certain medical conditions.
Always tell the healthcare professional about every herbal product or supplement the person is taking.
9. 🧠 TAKE CARE OF YOURSELF TOO
A caregiver who is completely exhausted may eventually struggle to care for someone else.
Eat. Sleep when you can. Take breaks. Ask for help.
You are also part of the care plan.
❤️ REMEMBER
When caring for a sick loved one, your job is not to know everything.
Your job is to:
NOTICE → RESPOND → SEEK HELP → FOLLOW THE CARE PLAN → PROVIDE SUPPORT
And above all:
Don't let fear make decisions that should be made with proper medical guidance.

🥩 DOES YOUR BLOOD GROUP DETERMINE HOW MUCH MEAT YOU SHOULD EAT?

You may have heard that blood group A, B, AB or O requires a different meat diet. But there is an important fact to know:

🩸 There is currently no strong scientific evidence that ABO blood type determines which foods—or which meats—you should eat.
The popular “blood-type diet” recommends different foods for different blood groups, but research has not demonstrated that eating according to your ABO type provides special health benefits.
So what really matters when eating meat?

🥩 Choose leaner cuts more often
🍗 Prefer poultry and fish regularly
🥓 Limit processed meats such as bacon, sausages and heavily processed meat
🔥 Avoid excessive charring/burning
🥗 Eat meat alongside vegetables, legumes and whole grains
⚖️ Keep portions reasonable

Your overall diet, activity level, age, health conditions and individual nutritional needs matter far more than whether your blood group is O, A, B or AB.

💡 BOTTOM LINE
Your blood group does not give you a license to eat unlimited meat—or require you to avoid meat completely.
Eat a balanced diet and make your meat choices wisely.
