PWDs in Abia State:

Did you know you can register for health insurance FREE?

Healthcare is a right, and the cost of accessing it should not be an additional barrier because you have a disability.

The Abia State Health Insurance Agency (ABSHIA) has a policy that provides free health insurance registration for persons with disabilities, giving registered PWDs access to healthcare services through the scheme.

If you are a person with a disability in Abia State and you have not registered yet, please take your NIN and go to their office at 100 Aba Road and get registered.

And if you know a PWD who may not be aware, share this information with them.

Don't let lack of information become another barrier to healthcare.

This is not a private company.

This is a Federal Government agency the Nigeria Agricultural Quarantine Service (NAQS) openly and brazenly advertising discrimination against persons with disabilities in a published recruitment notice.

Look at what they listed under "Physical Challenges" Applicants with any of the following need not apply":
Amputation of any part of the body
Hearing impaired (deaf)
Defective eye sight
Speech impediment
Bent arms/deformed hands
Hunched back
"Any physical deformity not mentioned"

That last point essentially says if you have any disability we haven't thought of, you are also excluded.

This is not just morally wrong. This is illegal.

The Discrimination Against Persons with Disabilities (Prohibition) Act 2018 explicitly prohibits exactly this kind of discriminatory recruitment practice.

A Federal Government agency is violating its own country's law in a published advertisement.

We get a lot of outreach from people wanting to partner with Initiative for the Thriving of Persons with Disabilities and we're grateful for it. 🙏

But partnership takes more than good intentions.

It takes alignment.

Recently, someone approached us offering "therapy" that claims to reverse autism symptoms.

Autism isn't a deficiency to be corrected.

Autistic people don't need fixing they need environments and support built around who they are.

This is why we vet every partnership request not just for credentials, but for values.

So when something doesn't align with a rights-based, affirming approach to disability, we say no. Every time!

We are NOT being difficult. That's us protecting the community we serve.

What a July it has been.

🏸 Our Co-founder Mr. Ekeoma flew to Kampala and returned with silver medals for Nigeria at the Uganda Para Badminton International 2026.

🗳️ We ran a PVC campaign that took us into communities, onto the streets and into the office of the INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner of Abia State.
✅ Yesterday — July 26th — the CVR officially closed.

We showed up. Without fail. And so did YOU. 💜
Now we close out Disability Pride Month the way we opened it.

Loud. Proud. Unapologetic. 🔥
