Ana Maria: the Power of Antiretroviral medications.

The Yellow Plastic Sun and Moon Mark the rhythm of my Life.
Twice a day, Morning and Night, I take two tablets that have Saved My Life.

This is how Ana Maria tells her Story. Today She's an activist in the DREAM Programme in Mozambique of the Sant' Egidio Community.

I began Feeling Sick in 2001. I was very ill but I didn't understand what was wrong. My Mother had already taken me to the hospital Countless times.
In the end I was Brought here to Sant' Egidio in 2002. They gave me the HIV test and Found I was Positive.
It was a Shock. My Husband Left me and I was Left alone with three Youngest children and Death waiting on the Door Step, Ana Maria recalled, Looking back.

It was a time that Left me deeply affected. The Path to tread was not easy.
I weighed 29 kilos, a Shadow of a Woman ,in tatters.

Nobody bought my vegetables anymore or the traditional drinks that I brewed.
People pointed their fingers and told everyone not to buy from me because I had AIDS.

My Children couldn't go to watch television in their neighbours house. People danced outside of My house, Singing Songs about HIV.

But now, Ana Maria is helping others. She gives talks in the Local Language and in Portuguese, Mainly for the Women who are more timid.
Now, My neighbours Come to my house, they even borrow salt from me.

If you are 30 and above, you do not need three meals a day. Nobody does.

Two meals.
One around midday.
One before evening closes.

Meat.
Fish.
Eggs.
Vegetables that grew from the ground, not from a factory.

No wheat.
No sugar.
No seed oil.
No malt drink you have convinced yourself is β€œmalt, not soda.”

Drink water.
Add salt to your food.
Sleep.
Move your body.

Your grandfather did not eat cereal at 7am and a sandwich at 1pm and rice at 9pm. He ate when there was food, and he buried fewer of his age mates from sugar than you will.

Start today with two meals.

That is the whole instruction.

Let us talk about the thing nobody posts about.

How often you actually use the toilet.

If it is not most days, something is wrong, and β€˜that is just how I am’ is not a diagnosis. It is a surrender.

You are not blocked because you are unlucky.

You are blocked because of what you send down and what you do not.

Water.

Actual water, first thing, before anything else.

Most of you are walking around mildly dried out and calling it normal.

Real vegetables β€” the leafy ones, the ones with a body to them. Not β€˜a fibre drink.’

The powdered fibre in the tin is business, not a fix.

Real fat.

Palm oil

Olive oil

Eggs

Avocado.

Fat is what actually gets things moving β€” eating low-fat meals will leave you stuck.

Move.

A body that sits all day has a gut that sits all day.

And if there is blood in your stool, or it changes suddenly, or you are losing weight you did not try to lose β€” stop reading and go and be seen by a doctor. That is not a food conversation.

The rest of you: water, greens, real fat, movement.

It is boring, it is free and it works.

IMPORTANCE OF REGULAR BP CHECKS.

Regular blood pressure (BP) checks are very important because they help detect health problems early and prevent serious complications.
Here are some key importance of regular BPchecks:

Early detection of hypertension
High blood pressure often has no symptoms, which is why it is called the β€œsilent killer.” Regular checks help identify it before complications occur.
Prevention of stroke and heart disease
Uncontrolled BP can damage the heart and blood vessels, leading to stroke, heart attack, or heart failure.

Protection of vital organs
Regular monitoring helps protect the kidneys, brain, and eyes from damage caused by prolonged high blood pressure.

Monitoring treatment effectiveness
For people already on medication, BP checks help determine whether treatment and lifestyle changes are working.

Encourages healthy lifestyle habits
Knowing one’s BP status can motivate healthier eating, exercise, reduced salt intake, stress management, and avoidance of smoking or excessive alcohol.

Detection of low blood pressure problems
BP checks can also identify hypotension, which may cause dizziness, weakness, fainting, or shock.
Improves overall health awareness
Regular checks encourage people to take charge of their health and seek medical care promptly when needed.

Reduces risk of sudden emergencies
Frequent monitoring can prevent hypertensive crises and other life-threatening conditions.
Healthy blood pressure for most adults is around 120/80 mmHg. Regular medical checkups and healthy living are essential for maintaining normal BP.

TODAY I WAS FORTUNATE ENOUGH TO BE IN ATTENDANCE FOR THIS IMPORTANT AWARENESS/SENSITIZATION PROGRAM ON LEPROSY BY THE RedAid Nigeria.

RedAid Nigeria is a Nigerian non-governmental organization focused on improving the health and well-being of people affected by leprosy, tuberculosis (TB), and other neglected tropical diseases (NTDs). The organization was incorporated in 2016 and became fully operational in 2022. οΏ½
- Empower Your Mind, Body & Soul +1
The history of RedAid Nigeria dates back more than 50 years to the activities of the German Leprosy and TB Relief Association (GLRA), which began work in Nigeria in 1965. GLRA introduced organized leprosy control programs, trained healthcare workers, and provided medical care to affected persons across several Nigerian states. οΏ½
- Empower Your Mind, Body & Soul +1
Over the years, the organization expanded its focus beyond leprosy to include tuberculosis, HIV, disability care, mental health, rehabilitation, and community inclusion. In 2016, GLRA Nigeria transitioned into RedAid Nigeria to strengthen local ownership and leadership while continuing its humanitarian mission. οΏ½

Empower Your Mind, Body & Soul +1

As someone who loves and enjoy sleeping, let's talk about sleeping today πŸŒ™πŸ˜΄πŸ’€.

The best sleeping period for most adults is 7–9 hours per night, preferably during the natural night-time hours πŸŒƒ.
A healthy sleep pattern usually looks like this:
Sleep time: Around 9:00 pm – 11:00 pm πŸ•°οΈ
Wake time: Around 5:00 am – 7:00 am 🌞
Why night sleep is important:
The body repairs tissues and restores energy better at night πŸ’ͺ.
Hormones that support immunity, memory, and healing are released during deep night sleep 🧬.
Good sleep improves mood, concentration, blood pressure, and heart health ❀️.
Recommended sleep duration by age
Newborns: 14–17 hours πŸ‘Ά
Children: 9–13 hours πŸ›οΈ
Teenagers: 8–10 hours 😴
Adults: 7–9 hours πŸ’€
Older adults: 7–8 hours πŸ‘΄
Tips for better sleep
Avoid heavy meals, caffeine, and excessive phone use before bed 🚫.
Keep the room cool, quiet, and dark πŸ›‹οΈ.
Try to sleep and wake at the same time daily ⏰.
Reduce stress and avoid long daytime naps 😌.
For nurses or shift workers, regular sleep may be difficult, so getting uninterrupted rest whenever possible becomes especially πŸ•ŠοΈπŸ˜Š.

A mother of 40 years old just came to the clinic now with classical signs and symptoms of menopause but her story is very pathetic. She came in looking very devastated, with her hair completely scraped 😭😭😭. Says her people had to take her to a traditional home for treatment of mental illness. As in they concluded that she might have been suffering from mental sickness considering the signs and symptoms that she was exhibiting sometimes last year. Honestly i wept, she is not the first neither is she going to be the last. Women who are not well informed about menopause go through this all the time. There's need for sensitization and awareness creation. No wonder the bible stated that we shall know the truth and the truth shall set us free.

Women who go into this phase of life adequately prepared are able to cope effectively. Knowledge indeed is power and security.
Watch out for my next post on menopause. But before then if you can please help sensitize our women on menopause.
