Prolistem® Success: From Sertoli Cell-Only to S***m Retrieval — An Extremely Rare Fertility Case
A male patient was previously treated with chemotherapy for non-Hodgkin lymphoma, resulting in severe and long-term testicular damage. As part of his oncological management, one te**is was surgically removed (orchiectomy), leaving the patient with only one remaining te**is and a critically limited testicular reserve.
Before starting Prolistem®, the patient underwent a micro-TESE procedure, which was negative. Histopathological examination revealed Sertoli Cell-Only syndrome, confirming the absence of active s***matogenesis at that time. His hormonal profile demonstrated extremely elevated FSH levels (>100 IU/L), reflecting profound testicular failure and an exceptionally poor fertility prognosis.
Despite these severe clinical findings, the patient proceeded with Prolistem® treatment.
After completion of the treatment, a repeat micro-TESE was performed. In contrast to the previous outcome, s***m were successfully retrieved, and three vials of s***m were cryopreserved for future IVF/ICSI use.
This case represents an exceptionally rare clinical scenario combining chemotherapy for non-Hodgkin lymphoma, orchiectomy of one te**is, Sertoli Cell-Only histology, extremely high FSH levels, and a previously failed micro-TESE, in which successful s***m retrieval was ultimately achieved following Prolistem® treatment.
Prolistem® does not guarantee results. Its goal is to optimize the testicular environment and maximize the chance of s***m retrieval in the most challenging cases—because every s***m matters.
The diagnosis was made by Dr. Badr Al-Suhaiba, and the microscopic examination was conducted by Dr. Ahmed Al-Khateeb, Amman, Jordan.
