REVALIDATIE NA COVID-19
———————————————

🗣To everyone who is experiencing physical discomfort and feels they cannot do the things they enjoy. Our body has a great ability to adapt, recover and improve, but sometimes it needs convincing evidence and knowledge from yourself and/or a healthcare professional.
Let me help you to convince YOUR body that YOU can do more than you think.
Start feeling resilient, stop feeling fragile!

I wish pain is easy to understand. Pain is not just a linear read out of the state of the tissue. It is far more nuanced, complicated and individual and it’s time that we actually understand this. We must be aware of the language that we as healthcare professionals and even friends and relatives use and the impact that it can have on a person who’s experiencing pain.

Pain is ALWAYS real! NEVER tell someone is pretending.

Sleep, stress (physical and/or mental), frustration, inactivity, overactivity, nutrition, kinesiophobia, negative beliefs, worry, confusion, thoughts, life events (for example moving out, death of a family member), anxiety and helplessness are all factors that commonly contribute to pain. And there are many many more factors....

My goals are to make sense of someone who’s experiencing pain and find things that possibly are contributing to their pain experience. Then try to manage it better and find ways to improve their quality of life.

As a physiotherapist we can give you a ton of new information. We can talk for hours and explain a lot. But what really important is, is what the human in front of us actually is learning and taking home. And it is not only as physiotherapists, but also for example coaches, personal trainers, educators etc etc!

Is he or she able to explain what they have learned to for example a friend or family member? Do they really understand the message?

Do they know what to do (or maybe temporarily not to do) after a (therapeutic) training session?

Ask them! Because if you don't ask, you will never know.

There are many reasons why you would do exercises during a rehab plan. The main reason why I’m doing exercises is to let someone know that they are able to move while experiencing pain. Giving them the feeling that it is mostly safe to stay active. Prepare someone to get their confidence back and it usually gives a reassuring effect. And as Louis Gifford said: “Effective reassurance is a bloody good pain killer”.

If you wan’t to achieve something in life just know that there is no quick fix, magic pill or whatsoever.

It is often difficult to make a start, especially if you don't know why, how and what to look for. Find a professional who can guide and teach you.

When someone is telling you he or she can fix you, please run!
