Today my private practice turns 5 years old! What began in the middle of a pandemic while caring for a baby has grown into a journey of discovery—falling in love with Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) for couples and finding my heart in working with intercultural couples. 💞🌍

Along the way, I’ve been held and inspired by so many—mentors, family, colleagues, and clients. This milestone is a celebration of courage, growth, and the power of community in building something meaningful.

🌟 I’m excited for what’s ahead: new services, fresh ideas, and beautiful collaborations!

And tonight, as if by divine intervention, I saw a double rainbow on our evening walk by the lake. 🌈🌈 The first rainbow is the fulfillment of a promise—the dream I once held in my heart becoming reality. The second rainbow whispers of renewal—fresh beginnings, new energy, and hope for what’s yet to come.

It felt like the most beautiful blessing from God to close this anniversary day. 💖

Jong geleerd is oud gedaan

(What you learn young, you’ll carry into adulthood)

How we relate to others starts early.
That’s why it’s so important to teach our children how to manage relationships—from learning to say no, to practicing co-regulation, to knowing that relationships take work, intention, and emotional care.

We don’t always grow up with secure role models who show us what healthy connection looks like. But we can still learn—and we can teach our little ones something different.

Because love isn’t just a feeling.
It’s a skill.
It’s a practice.
It’s a garden you need to nurture, especially when you never saw one blooming.

🪴 Let’s raise a generation that knows how to care, connect, and grow together.

Holiday read: The Choice by Edith Eger

I picked this book for the holidays, a story of resilience, healing, and the power of choice.

In The Choice, Edith Eger shares her journey from surviving Auschwitz to building a life of healing and purpose. Through her experiences as both a survivor and a psychologist, she shows that while we can’t change the past, we can choose how we move forward. Her conclusion is powerful: true freedom comes from within, and we always have the power to shape our own future.

“Bad things, I am afraid, happen to everyone. This we can’t change. If you look at your birth certificate, does it say life will be easy? It does not. But so many of us remain stuck in a trauma or grief, unable to experience our lives fully. This we can change,” writes Edith.

You are not alone. There is hope.

These wonderful little books arrived in the post last week - a special delivery all the way from the US! I’ve been wanting to purchase them for so long, and the timing couldn’t have been better.

It made it just in time for Christmas, so I was able to gift some of them to my clients already.

Huge thank you to for a very easy and smooth delivery! Grateful and excited 🎁📚✨

Last month marked a significant milestone in my journey as the owner of a counselling practice for (intercultural) couples here in Amsterdam.

Three years ago, this adventure began, and I am immensely grateful for the trust and support from family and friends. To my clients, thank you for allowing me to share this transformational journey with you.

In reflecting on this milestone, I have learned some vital lessons: the significance of cultural sensitivity, the power of empathic and vulnerable communication, adaptability in the face of change, the beauty of embracing diversity, and the importance of self-care.

Some of the highlights of the past year are:
* getting my diploma in family and systemic psychotherapy (in supervision)
* becoming a facilitator of the renowned Circle of Security Parenting program (a dream come true!)
* enlarging my network of local psychologists, a much longed for Amsterdam-based “tribe”

As I look ahead to the future, I'm excited about the continued growth and impact. I remain committed to helping intercultural couples thrive in their relationships!

Thank you once again to everyone who has been a part of this journey. Here's to three years of growth, learning, and helping couples from all walks of life (re)discover love.

p.s. To celebrate, I’ve updated my website with some of my favourite reads on relationships, see www.victoriaribokas.com/resources
More resources to come!

Today marks 2 years in private practice !
Was it difficult? Yes! Was it worth it? Definitely YES!

I found this passage on the Internet, and I do not know who wrote it, but I deeply resonate with it:

A: What do you do?
B: I am a psychologist.
A: I am sure you meet a lot of strange or troubled people.
B: No. I work with mothers, nurses, artists, lawyers, husbands, doctors, volunteers, teachers, and all kinds of vulnerable and beautiful people, who do everything in their power not to let the experiences of the past prevent them from enjoying life, loving and letting themselves be loved. I work with heroes, with people whom I admire and who inspire me daily.

I feel privileged to be part of my clients’ lives, and I am beyond thankful that they trust me to walk the journey alongside them.

I am especially grateful to my “team behind the scenes:” my supervisors, trainers, therapists, colleagues, and my family. I couldn’t do it without you - your support and love give me wings to fly!

Thank you! Mulțumesc 🙏
