Do you think you are alone in this?
You are not.
There is an inner critic in every one of us. A force that can make an extraordinary human being forget their own magnitude. It can reduce an entire life to the places where we failed, the ways we are still unfinished, the distance between who we are and who we think we should have become.
And after years of listening, we stop recognising it as a voice.
We call it ourselves.
This is where the real suffering begins.
We shrink inside an image of who we believe we are. We become afraid of our own power, our own visibility, even our own aliveness. We mistake fear for truth and self-judgment for self-knowledge.
Yet the inner critic can become one of the most unexpected doorways into awakening.
Because the moment you can hear the voice, there is already something in you that is not the voice.
Something is witnessing it.
Something can feel the fear without becoming the fear. Something can notice the judgment without kneeling before it.
And this tiny space between the voice and the one who hears it changes everything.
You begin to see how much of what you called “me” was conditioning speaking through you.
The critic may still come.
The fear may still come.
But now they arrive inside something much larger.
Awareness.
And perhaps awakening begins exactly there: when the voices that once defined the limits of who you could be become the very ones that lead you beyond them.
