A multibillion-dollar industry is built on helping you accept yourself—without ever addressing the mechanism through which you unconsciously and compulsively reject yourself.
But self-rejection isn’t merely a mental problem you can think your way out of.
If FEELING and EXPRESSING anger, hurt, sadness or fear once threatened love, safety, approval or connection, you may have learned to hold back those emotions automatically—before you even knew what you were doing.
Self-hatred became protection: a way to turn against yourself before authentic emotional expression could threaten the connection you depended on.
You can place kinder thoughts on top of that mechanism. But until the emotional repression underneath is addressed, the self-rejection continues.
Emotional freedom isn’t becoming better at accepting yourself.
When nothing within you needs to be resisted, both self-rejection and self-acceptance lose their job.
