Confidence doesn’t mean knowing everything will go well. It means trusting yourself enough to give it a try.

For me, this wasn’t always the case.

Or perhaps I should say, confidence was something I had when I was younger, but somehow, as I grew older, it seemed to hide away.

It took some work to find my way back to it, but I’m happy to say it’s there again.

And one thing I’ve learnt along the way is that confidence isn’t about being full of yourself or thinking you’re better than anyone else.

It’s about trusting that you can handle whatever comes your way, whether the outcome is good or bad.

It’s about believing you’re worthy, knowing that you’re enough just as you are.

It’s about allowing yourself to take up space. Not just in the comfort of your own home, but in unfamiliar places too.

Knowing that you belong, that you have a voice and that you have every right to be there, wherever life takes you.

And perhaps that’s where confidence really begins. Not in knowing how everything will turn out, but in knowing that you can trust yourself along the way.

💭 Has your confidence changed as you’ve grown older?

I got asked this question just the other day, and it’s something I always like to explain before a session because I want people to feel comfortable knowing what to expect.

And I can certainly understand the question!

When we think of hypnosis, we might picture someone being completely unconscious, asleep or unaware of what’s happening around them. Films and stage hypnosis haven’t exactly helped with that impression!

But therapeutic hypnosis is quite different.

During an RTT session, you’re aware of what’s happening. You can hear my voice, communicate with me and respond to questions. You’re actively involved in the process.

I often explain that hypnosis isn’t about losing control or being unconscious. It’s a state of focused attention where we can explore thoughts, feelings and experiences in a different and sometimes deeper way.

And yes, you can recall your experience afterwards, much like you would remember a conversation.

I believe that knowing what to expect can make the idea of hypnosis feel much more approachable.

💭 Is there something you’ve always wondered about hypnosis or RTT? Feel free to ask!

Autumn is definitely making itself felt! 🍂

The temperatures are dropping, the days are getting noticeably shorter and the world around us is changing.

Whether we like it or not, the seasons will change. And resisting that change certainly doesn’t make the process any easier.

I’ve actually learnt to love it!

Having grown up in Ethiopia, I didn’t experience such drastic seasonal changes. There was a rainy season and a dry season, and being so close to the equator meant that the length of the days stayed pretty much the same throughout the year.

Living in Europe has given me a whole new appreciation for the changing seasons.

These days, I find something exciting about each one. Autumn means getting cosy, spending more time with loved ones (preferably all in the same warm room 🤣), the wonderful smells coming from the oven, and those beautiful shades of orange, gold and red everywhere you look.

I could go on!

And perhaps there’s a little lesson in all of this.

Change is part of life. We don’t always get to choose when or how it happens, but sometimes we can choose how we approach it.

So here’s my little challenge to you this week:

Try to find something beautiful in what you would normally resist.

Let things be what they are, and see if you can find a way to enjoy them while they last.

💭 Is there something about autumn you’ve learnt to appreciate?

There’s nothing wrong with asking for advice. Sometimes another perspective is exactly what we need.

But when our every decision comes with the need for reassurance, it can become harder to hear what you actually think and want.

Sometimes the answer isn’t more advice.

It’s learning to trust your own judgement, feel confident in your decisions and know that you can handle the outcome, even when you can’t be completely certain of what comes next.

Self-trust is something we can build.

If self-doubt and overthinking are getting in the way of your decisions, this is something we can work on together.

How different would things feel if you trusted yourself more?

Last week I shared one of the books that inspired me at an important time in my life, Just F⭐️cking Do It by Noor Hibbert, so I thought I’d carry a little piece of it into this week.

I’m happy with where I am today, but that doesn’t mean I want to be in exactly the same place next year, next month or even next week.

There is still so much I want to work on, experience and grow into.

For me, progress is part of what keeps us moving forward. Life will always have its ups and downs, but having aims and things to work towards can help keep us going. Even when we don’t know exactly how we’ll get there, having a direction can keep that light on at the end of every tunnel we come across.

We can appreciate where we are while still wanting to grow.

📚 GOOD READ

Just F⭐️cking Do It: Stop Playing Small. Transform Your Life. by Noor Hibbert

I read this book quite a few years ago, around the time I was beginning my own journey towards becoming an RTT Therapist, and I remember finding it incredibly inspiring.

What I loved about it was the focus on taking action. We can spend so much time thinking about what we want to change, waiting until we feel completely ready or questioning whether we can actually do it.

Sometimes we simply have to take that first step.

Looking back, I think this book came into my life at exactly the right time. I was making changes of my own, stepping into something new and working towards the career I wanted to create.

It’s one of those books that has stayed with me, which is why I wanted to share it as this month’s Good Read.

Have you read it? Or is there a book that came into your life at exactly the right time?

Change can come into our lives in different ways.

Sometimes circumstances leave us little choice but to adapt. Other times, we actively seek change because we want to grow or create something different for ourselves.

I’ve come to learn that even when we choose change, it doesn’t mean it’s always easy. Holding on to what feels familiar can seem more comfortable than stepping into the unknown.

But I believe there is courage in being open to change. It doesn’t mean we have to adapt instantly. We can give ourselves the space to adjust and grow at our own pace.

💭 How do you usually respond to change? Do you welcome it, or do you need a little time to adjust?

Have you ever reacted to something and afterwards thought, “Why did that affect me so much?”

Sometimes what is happening in the present is only part of the story.

An experience can bring up an old feeling, belief or response without us consciously making the connection between the two.

This is one of the reasons we may look into earlier experiences during RTT. Not to stay focused on the past, but to better understand where certain patterns may have begun and why they might still be influencing us today.

Because when we understand where something comes from, we have an opportunity to respond differently moving forward. 🌿

Have you ever had a reaction that didn’t quite make sense to you at the time?

Sometimes we hold on because it feels familiar, even when we know it may no longer be serving us in any way.

Letting go doesn’t mean that something didn’t matter. Sometimes it simply means recognising that we don’t need to carry it anymore. We’ve learnt what was needed and now we can move on.

For me, there is something quite powerful in that thought.

What is something you feel ready to let go of?
