Washing Without Water Products. Proper hygiene for ICU and bedridden patients reducing risk of cross

Swash is a product which consists of disposable bath wipes and gloves which are impregnated with a speial lotion. These wipes are used primarily to bath bedridden patients in lieu of water, soap, wash-basin, and cream. It is much more enjoyable for both patient and care giver as it is a one step process and gives a soothing feeling to the skin. It also is more hygienic as there is no spillage of water or reusing of any materials.

More than 150 years ago, Florence Nightingale emphasised that personal hygiene, a clean environment and the importance of keeping patients clean and comfortable were essential to good nursing care.

Her principles laid the foundation for many hygiene practices we know today. For generations, washing patients at the bedside with water, soap, a wash basin and towels has remained a familiar part of daily nursing care.

𝗕𝘂𝘁 𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗼𝘂𝗴𝗵𝘁 𝗮𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗿𝗶𝘀𝗸𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗱𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗯𝗮𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴?

While the importance of personal hygiene has remained unchanged, our understanding of how to provide safe and effective care has continued to evolve.

In the 1990s, nurse Susan Skewes showed that traditional bathing with water and soap is far from harmless.

She suggested using waterless, person-bound bathing solutions instead of traditional bathing. Waterless bathing solutions help protect the skin barrier and reduce the risk of cross-contamination.

This quote, from the modern Hippocratic Oath of more than 2400 years ago, reflects a commitment that connects generations of healthcare professionals: caring for people includes protecting them from preventable harm.

Back then, running water and basic hygiene were a luxury for most people and prevention was mostly an ideal.

Today, a lot has changed; our understanding of infection prevention has developed enormously. Infection prevention starts with simple, everyday actions that keep our families, communities, and workplaces protected.

The commitment to prevention connects the past with the present. The choices we make today help put that commitment into practice.

Hand hygiene is one of the most effective ways to prevent the spread of infections.

🦠 Every day, our hands come into contact with microorganisms through the people, surfaces and objects we touch. When we then touch our eyes, nose or mouth, these germs can enter our bodies.

Washing our hands with soap and water helps reduce this spread and can help prevent around 20% of respiratory infections, such as colds.

In healthcare settings, proper hand hygiene becomes even more important. Caregivers frequently move between different tasks, surfaces and contact moments – increasing the risk of transferring microorganisms.

Today, on Global Handwashing Day 2026, the message “Be a Handwashing Hero” reminds us that we can all help make clean hands part of everyday life.

Proper hand hygiene may seem like a small step, but it can have a big impact on protecting ourselves and those around us. 🤝

Last week, we welcomed second-year nursing apprentices to Arion, alongside FgSKW nursing expert Tatjana Klassen and nurse manager Katharina Ollfisch, to share perspectives and exchange ideas.

During their visit, a tour of our in-house production facilities offered insights into how our Swash® products are made. The apprentices’ thoughtful questions sparked discussions about care, hygiene, skin health, sustainability and mobilisation, while sharing how they would use our products in nursing practice.

Tatjana Klassen shared results from using our Swash® Perineum products, raising awareness of Incontinence-Associated Dermatitis (IAD) and pressure ulcers.

We also discussed incontinence in young women – still often a taboo topic.

Alongside learning and sharing knowledge, we enjoyed continuing the conversations over Dutch vlaai. 😊

The visit highlighted the value of connecting nursing education, practice and industry. Personal connections and regular professional exchange help us understand everyday care priorities and develop ideas for the care of tomorrow.

𝗛𝗲𝘁 𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗵𝗮𝗮𝗹 𝗮𝗰𝗵𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗼𝗻𝘇𝗲 𝗦𝘄𝗮𝘀𝗵® 𝗣𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘂𝗺-𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗱𝘂𝗰𝘁𝗲𝗻

Voor mensen die leven met incontinentie gaat zorg om veel meer dan hygiëne. Het gaat om het beschermen van de kwetsbare huid, het verminderen van ongemak en het behouden van waardigheid tijdens zeer persoonlijke momenten.

Toen Swash® in 1996 begon met het opnieuw vormgeven van de dagelijkse lichaamswassing, was het doel eenvoudig: de hygiëne van patiënten verbeteren en infectiepreventie bij zorgafhankelijke patiënten ondersteunen. Naarmate het Swash® Bathing-concept onderdeel werd van de dagelijkse zorgroutines, werd een andere uitdaging steeds duidelijker: incontinentiezorg.

En daar begint het verhaal van de Swash® Perineum-producten.

Herhaalde blootstelling aan urine en ontlasting kan de kwetsbare huid snel aantasten, wat kan leiden tot incontinentie-geassocieerde dermatitis (IAD), ongemak en pijn. Om deze uitdaging aan te pakken, ontwikkelde Swash® incontinentieproducten met een lotion die 𝟯% 𝗗𝗶𝗺𝗲𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗲 bevat. De lotion helpt de huid te verzorgen en te beschermen, terwijl de huid kan blijven ademen.

In 2019 introduceerden we de 𝗦𝘄𝗮𝘀𝗵® 𝗣𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘂𝗺 𝗣𝗹𝘂𝘀+ 𝗪𝗶𝗽𝗲𝘀 met de 𝗴𝗲𝗽𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗲𝗿𝗱𝗲 𝗧𝗿𝗶𝘅𝗼𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗰®-𝗹𝗼𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺𝘂𝗹𝗲, verrijkt met hyaluronzuur, bentoniet en hydrogel.

Tijdens de Week van de Continentie staan we stil bij het belang van incontinentiemanagement.

Want goede incontinentiezorg gaat niet alleen over wat we gebruiken, maar ook over hoe we zorg verlenen. Het gaat om het beschermen van de kwetsbare huid, het verminderen van ongemak en het ondersteunen van zorgvragers op momenten waarop waardigheid altijd voorop zou moeten staan.

Vandaag de dag blijven de incontinentieproducten van Swash® zorgverleners ondersteunen bij het bieden van effectieve continentiezorg: ze helpen de huid te beschermen, comfort te behouden en infectiepreventie te ondersteunen.

𝗔𝗻𝗼𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿 𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗽 𝗳𝗼𝗿𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗱 𝗶𝗻 𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗱𝘂𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗰𝗲𝘀𝘀! 🏭

We continuously look for ways to improve our production processes. Sometimes, one improvement leads naturally to the next.

After increasing the output of our Glove production lines by 25% with the ultrasonic system from MS Ultraschall, our packaging process needed to keep up with this increased capacity. After expanding our palletising system, it was time for the next step.

At the beginning of September, we began installing two new Lantech case erectors that fold boxes into shape and a random case sealer that seals boxes of different sizes. Hocuma adapted the machines to fit our production process.

Within just three days, the existing roller conveyors were removed, cabling was rerouted and the new machines were installed and ready for testing. 👏

👉 The new machines can prepare up to 𝟭𝟰 𝗯𝗼𝘅𝗲𝘀 𝗽𝗲𝗿 𝗺𝗶𝗻𝘂𝘁𝗲 and allow us to work with a 𝘄𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗿 𝘃𝗮𝗿𝗶𝗲𝘁𝘆 𝗼𝗳 𝗯𝗼𝘅 𝘀𝗶𝘇𝗲𝘀 - and most importantly, our production lines can now 𝗼𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗮𝘁 𝗳𝘂𝗹𝗹 𝗰𝗮𝗽𝗮𝗰𝗶𝘁𝘆!

It has been quite a journey, with several improvements along the way. Seeing them come together makes the result even more rewarding. 😊

Mensen ondersteunen die tussen wal en schip dreigen te raken of zijn geraakt - daar zet Stichting Helpende Handen Oostelijke Mijnstreek zich voor in.

Met voedsel- en hulppakketten biedt de stichting ondersteuning aan mensen met een smalle beurs of in noodsituaties.
