1973: the starting point of the wheelchair car.

Long before WAV conversions became an industry, Ad Smulders (founder of B-Style) developed a new vehicle concept that changed how accessibility was approached.

Instead of modifying vehicles afterward, accessibility became part of the design from the start. This shift didn’t just introduce a solution, but it defined a new category in mobility.

More than 50 years later, that foundation still influences how wheelchair accessible vehicles are engineered today.

Do you think that current conversions still follow this original design approach?

10+ years of partnership.
And extended for the next cycle: 2026–2029.

Our vanPartner status with Mercedes-Benz reflects how we design and build our WAV conversion systems: engineered for consistency, integration, and repeatability.

No shortcuts. Just process.

Would this level of standardization fit your current conversion workflow?

Wheelchair secured. Passenger supported?

B-Safe adds head and back support where extra stability is needed during transport. Designed for vehicles with a lowered floor and easy to integrate into existing WAV configurations.

A practical addition to complete the passenger setup.

This is how we define exactly where to cut the original vehicle floor during a wheelchair accessible vehicle (WAV) conversion.
In this step, a section of the OEM floor is removed to create space for the lowered floor. The position of this cut is critical, as it determines fit, alignment, and how the full system integrates.

Our template set physically defines the cut-out area and works together with a detailed step-by-step build manual.
This removes guesswork and allows installers to execute a consistent and controlled operation, regardless of experience level.

The result: accurate positioning, fewer errors, and a more predictable installation process.

Would this level of precision improve your current conversion workflow?

Maybe you’ve already seen this article passing, but it’s worth a closer look.

With the rollout of the first Mercedes-Benz eSprinter L3 wheelchair accessible taxis in this project, the collaboration between B-Style and VDL moves into real-world application.
B-Style supplied the B-FiT conversion kits, forming the structural backbone of the wheelchair accessible layout.
VDL integrated the system into a clean, technically robust build, with strong attention to detail.

What stands out here is the transition from concept to series:
🔹 consistent installation
🔹 clear structural integration
🔹 readiness for repeatable production
🔹A solid first series that shows how the collaboration translates into scalable, real-world vehicles.

📢 New development in progress: WAV kit for Kia PV5

A new electric platform requires a new approach to accessibility, and that is exactly what we are building.

At B-Style, we are developing a bolt-on WAV conversion kit specifically for the KIA PV5. The kit is already available for order and will be released in summer 2026.

Our engineering focus:
• No-welding integration
• Platform-specific design
• Repeatable and efficient installation
• Developed with EU type approval in mind

Technical specifications, homologation strategy, and configuration options will be communicated once validation phases are completed.
