Who we are

Everyone is welcome
Phuntsok Chö Ling is an open Buddhist center: Everyone is welcome to come and learn about meditation and the Buddhist path. We organize meditation courses, readings, meditation weekends and retreats. After an initial introduction to meditation, you can continue your studies with us. On every evening of the week in our temple there's a class at a different level. Peace in your daily life. At Puntsok Chö Ling you receive lessons from the Tibetan teacher Lama Jigmé Namgyal who introduces you to the Buddhist view of life in a manner that's accessible to everyone. He gives instruction on the workings of your mind, and how you can bring peace to it. His teachings bring more depth to your meditation, which in turn has an effect on your everyday life. Our objective
With the guidance of Lama Jigmé our aim is to build a bridge between an ancient cultural tradition of peace, wisdom and compassion, and the contemporary Western manner of living. Tibetan Buddhism has a unique vision of the well-being and happiness of human beings. With this as our basis, Phuntsok Chö Ling hopes to contribute to making our society more peaceful by starting at the individual level with meditation, study and following the teachings as a means to this end. In doing so, we create peace from within ourselves, thereby providing a peaceful example wherever we go. Our teacher and name
Phuntsok Chö Ling was founded by Lama Jigmé Namgyal. All of his activities and merits are dedicated to the memory of his teacher Khenpo Jigme Phuntsok Rinpoche. More about Lama Jigmé

Our heartfelt thanks to Rinpoche for sharing these precious teachings with such generosity, and to all the volunteers, karma yogis, facilitators, and supporters who made this retreat possible. 🙏

We wish everyone a joyful and meaningful summer! 🌸 We look forward to welcoming you back on 7 September for the new semester, with upcoming retreats and teachings open to everyone.

Cutting Through Ego-Clinging

From July 24 – August 2, 2026, join us for a rare opportunity to receive the authentic transmission of Chöd with our precious teacher Lama Jigmé Rinpoche.

Chöd, meaning “cutting through,” is a profound Vajrayana practice originating from the great yogini Machig Labdrön (1055–1149). Rather than avoiding our fears, attachments, and difficult emotions, Chöd teaches us to meet them with wisdom, transforming them into a path of freedom.

At the heart of this practice is radical generosity—the symbolic offering of our own body for the benefit of all beings. Through this, we gradually loosen our attachment to a solid sense of self, allowing compassion, courage, and fearlessness to naturally arise.

In today’s uncertain world, Chöd offers timeless methods for working with fear and turning life’s challenges into opportunities for awakening.

With his warm, clear, and practical guidance, Lama Jigmé Rinpoche will lead participants step by step through this profound practice, making these ancient teachings accessible and directly applicable to everyday life.

Tashi Delek, everyone!

Warm greetings from Lama Jigmé Namgyal Rinpoche and from all of us at Phuntsok Chö Ling Temple.

What an inspiring and joyful weekend we shared together as we celebrated the legacy of the Living Buddha of Compassion, His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama, on the occasion of his 91st birthday.

It was a truly beautiful gathering filled with loving-kindness meditation, joy, and community. We were especially happy to welcome children, babies, and everyone. Seeing the younger generation participate felt deeply auspicious—planting precious seeds of love, kindness, and compassion for the future.

A heartfelt thank you to Lhamo for sharing prayers in Nepalese language and Marta for organizing the wonderful Sacred Tibetan Lotus Painting Workshop in the temple foyer. It was a beautiful opportunity for everyone to experience Tibetan sacred art.

We also extend our sincere gratitude to Uliana- our 14 year old temple daughter, together with Mila and her mother, for offering such a touching musical presentation. Three generations of Ukrainian women came together to share traditional folk songs celebrating a mother’s unconditional love. Their heartfelt performance deeply touched us all and beautifully reflected the universal language of compassion. We then enjoyed a warm and convivial lunch together as a community.

Yesterday, during the Sunday meditation, Rinpoche gave a precious teaching on impermanence. He encouraged us to practice meditation on impermanence, especially during difficult times, reminding us to give ourselves and others space, patience, and kindness. His advice for this week is simple yet profound: enjoy each day, do not worry about tomorrow, and cultivate a joyful, positive heart in every moment.

Before the summer break, I would like to invite you to one of the most important retreats of the year.

Our annual Chöd Retreat begins on 24 July. Chöd is an ancient Tibetan Buddhist practice for cutting through ego, fear, attachment, and ignorance, revealing our true nature with wisdom and compassion. Rinpoche has a remarkable gift for making these profound teachings accessible and practical for our modern Western lives.

During the retreat, we will also spend one day practicing together in nature, by the beach, bringing the teachings directly into our experience.

You are welcome to attend the full 10-day retreat in temple, or join online if you cannot be present in person. If your schedule does not allow you to attend live, you can still register and receive the recordings afterwards. Even simply listening to the teachings and the sacred chanting again and again is considered a great blessing.

Please register through the temple website, and feel free to share this invitation with your family, friends, and anyone who may benefit from these precious teachings.

After the Chöd Retreat, our summer schedule will conclude, and our new semester of classes will begin on 7th September.

Thank you all for your kindness, your generosity, and your presence in our community. We look forward to practicing together and hope to see many of you at the Chöd Retreat.

Mudita,
Khandrola

THANK YOU MESSAGE

I would like to thank you all for your greetings on my 91st birthday. As I mentioned to those gathered here in Leh, Ladakh, India on 6 July, when I look back on my life, I see that the core of my practice has been to be of benefit to others. That is the altruistic motivation with which I wake up every day.

Spreading compassion and kindness continues to be my life's primary mission. Such an attitude is essential to making our world a better place for everyone. I therefore call on my brothers and sisters everywhere, both young and old, to practice warm-heartedness and compassion, with genuine concern for the well-being of others. To be able to do so is, I believe, what it means to lead a meaningful and purposeful life of service.

As you may be aware, following a successful medical procedure on my left knee in New Delhi last month, I have since been recuperating here in Ladakh. As in past years, I find the climate here at this time of year well suited to my health, and I therefore plan to remain in Ladakh for the next several weeks.

With my prayers and good wishes,

DALAI LAMA

Birthday Offering to His Holiness the Dalai Lama on His 91st Birthday
On behalf of Phuntsok Chö Ling Temple in Rotterdam and Tibetan Cultural Centre in Luxembourg

Your Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama,

With deepest reverence and gratitude, every moment of compassion is dedicated to you. Every thought of loving kindness that arises for all sentient beings is a humble offering to you and to your immeasurable kindness.

On this joyful occasion of your 91st birthday in Leh, Ladakh, so close to the sacred land of Tibet, everyone at Phuntsok Chö Ling Temple offers heartfelt prayers for your long life, excellent health, and the complete fulfillment of all your aspirations. May you continue to turn the Wheel of Dharma for the benefit of beings throughout the world.

Today, as a humble offering for your birthday, we meditated and reflected on your teachings by reading The Stages of Meditation, based on the precious instructions you gave in Manali, Khandrola’s hometown in 1989. It remains one of the clearest guides to the Buddhist path. For Khandrola, It was a great blessing to receive those teachings together with her mother and school children, and they continue to inspire every aspect of their practice.

In these teachings, Your Holiness explains that the path to enlightenment begins with cultivating a sincere motivation to benefit all sentient beings. Meditation is not merely a method for calming the mind, but a profound transformation of the heart. Genuine progress arises through the union of compassion and wisdom. Compassion gives rise to the courageous wish to free all beings from suffering, while wisdom realizes the true nature of reality. Together, supported by skillful means, they become the complete path to Buddhahood.

You also remind us that meditation is not separate from daily life. Every action, every encounter, and every challenge becomes an opportunity to cultivate patience, kindness, ethical discipline, mindfulness, and insight. In this way, meditation becomes a living practice that transforms ourselves and benefits others.

Your teachings have always emphasized that universal responsibility and compassion are not only Buddhist ideals but essential human values. In a world often divided by fear and conflict, you continue to show that genuine peace begins within each individual heart and naturally extends outward to families, communities, nations, and ultimately to all sentient beings.

On this auspicious day, we renew our commitment to practice your advice: to cultivate a warm heart, to cherish others, to deepen our understanding through study and contemplation, and to unite compassion with wisdom in every aspect of our lives.

May your life remain stable for hundreds of years. May all obstacles to your activities be pacified. May the Dharma flourish in every direction. May Tibet preserve its precious spiritual heritage and continue to be a source of wisdom, compassion, and peace for the entire world.

With profound gratitude for your boundless kindness, we dedicate all virtues accumulated today to your long life and to the awakening of all sentient beings.

Happy 91st Birthday, Your Holiness.

With deepest respect and prayers,
