IRONMAN NUTRION STRATEGY
Recently more research shows us that carbohydrate intakes up to 120g carbs per hour can contribute to better performance!
In this light we must see that for some triathletes120g per hour intake will work, but not everyone can handle the higher amounts of carbohydrate within the stomach and intestines.
NutrID Developed the following intake possibilities with carbohydrate per hour :
- Kerosine ratio 2:1 = 90g carbs per hour
- Kerosine ratio 3:2 = 100g carbs per hour
- Kerosine ratio 1:1 = 120g carbs per hour
- KerosineRS+ ratio 2:1 = 90g carbs per hour
- KerosineRS+ ratio 3:1 = 80g carbs per hour
- KerosineRS+ ratio 6:1 = 70g carbs per hour
- KerosineRS+ ratio 1:0 = 60g carbs per hour
The difference between Kerosine and KerosineRS+ is the amount of cluster dextrin and fructose mixed. The Kerosine van give you more carbs per hour, but the KerosineRS+ is more stomach and intestines friendly for during the run.
We recommend to take more carbs during the bike part. As in the beginning of the day intestines absorption is much more effective then later on the day.

RUN : KerosineRS+ 2:1 (90g per hour)
TRIATHLETE B
Bike : Kerosine Ratio 1:1 (120g per hour)
Run : Kerosine ratio 2:1 (90g per hour)
TRIATHLETE C
BIKE : Kerosine Ratio 2:1 (90g per hour)
RUN KerosineRS+ 1:0 (60g Per hour)
Most important for race nutrition is that you train it! At least the last three weeks up to the race event. If you experience everything is going well you can test with higher amount.If you have some problems you scale down. In this way you will find the best possible carbohydrate intake per hour for your individual IRONMAN (IRONMAN 70.3) race.
