English below!

Niks is minder waar!

Vertel me erover in de comments!

ENGLISH

Yes, I was a huge Guns N’ Roses fan because my dad used to play Sweet Child O’ Mine with his cover band back in the day. I absolutely loved it.

My love for GNR grew even stronger when I met a girl my age who played the piano. She was also a massive GNR fan and introduced me to songs I had never even heard before! I still remember that I refused to believe November Rain was by Guns N’ Roses at first, because it sounded so different from the rest of the music I knew from them. Turns out I couldn’t have been more wrong!

They’ve remained my favorite band ever since, and I’m so happy I got to see Axl and Slash perform together live in Nijmegen. It was an incredible show, and I’m truly grateful I got to experience it. Oh, and Angus Young even joined them on stage for a few songs—apparently he lived just around the corner. 😉 What an amazing memory!

So, which band started your musical journey? Tell me about it in the comments!

A little bit about me!🎸

I have had a lot of difficult moments and endings within my history in making music and also in life in general. There were a lot of mental blockages and patterns that were distorting my viewpoint and my ability to work together with other people in a band. These were all patterns and blockages from unresolved childhood trauma and emotional neglect. It took me years to understand why everything had happend the way it did. I came to the realisation when I was doing a course for Schematherapy as a psycholgist, while i was working with a special group of people: asylumseekers❤️.

In this time period I have learned so much about myself, other people and weirdly enough, everything that went “wrong” in my band history. It finally clicked and I am grateful it finally did! 🤩

I came to the realisation that lots of bands get destroyed because of the same type of problems that I had, and sometimes still struggle with (I am human after all). I was so happy with everything that I found, that I want to share these insights with other musicians, to hopefully make the music industry a good place again, but at the start of the chain: the bands. Politics and bureaucracy are not my thing 😜

My purpose? To combine all my psychological insights with all of my musical experience and train bands to be better teams🫂💙🩷

I am working on something very cool behind the scenes and I cannot wait to share it with the world, but i have to be patient 🤩

Keep you posted! :)

With love,

Myriam

Breaking Free From Patterns

For me, the pattern I really needed to break free from is people pleasing. I used to be so afraid of conflict and terror, that I tried to avoid every form of negative emotion or conflict. The things that I was trying to avoid, I actually created with my avoidant behavior. Also, it was completely exhausting! There was no space for me and all of my time and energy went to other people.

The hard part of breaking free from these patterns, is that the moment you start to speak up for yourself, there will be a lot of resistance from other people. Not because your boundaries aren’t allowed to exist, but because people have to learn to accept the new you after being used to the old one for such a long time. Plus, some people will be angry that you are not their source or supply anymore. Don’t grieve them, let them go. They were not meant to be in your life in the first place ;)

In my band experiences, this people pleasing pattern had cost me a lot of energy, and money. There is nothing wrong with wanting things to work out, but in order to do so, work things out with yourself first!

Tag your favorite people pleasing band member to help them stop this habit and follow for more insights.

Some people are just in it to make music and earn money, and that is completely fine. As long as the whole band knows this. But mostly, a band is or becomes a group of friends or an extra family. In this case it’s very important to pay attention to the relationship you have with each other! Keep the connection strong, it helps to keep the music strong. Also, your performance gets better and you are more likely to experiment and create more :)

When was the last time you did some team building activities with your band? Tip: go to a theme park and experience something scary ;)
