Every year, millions of people across the European Union become victims of crime. They deserve to be heard, protected and supported.

The Council has now adopted the revised Victims' Rights Directive, marking an important step towards a more victim-centred criminal justice system across the EU.

The new rules will:
βœ” Improve access to information, guidance and emotional support
βœ” Make it easier for victims to report crimes and participate in criminal proceedings
βœ” Strengthen victim support services and protection measures
βœ” Reinforce safeguards for children and other vulnerable victims
βœ” Better protect victims' personal data
βœ” Improve access to compensation

By strengthening victims' rights, the EU is helping ensure that justice is not only delivered, but that victims receive the support and protection they need throughout the process.
