🚨 APPENDICITIS – A Common Surgical Emergency
Appendicitis is an inflammation of the appendix and is one of the most common causes of sudden abdominal pain requiring surgery. Early recognition and treatment can prevent serious complications.
🔎 Common Signs & Symptoms
• Pain starting around the navel and later moving to the right lower abdomen
• Loss of appetite
• Nausea and vomiting
• Mild to moderate fever 🤒
• Abdominal tenderness (especially on the right side)
• Pain that worsens when walking, coughing, or moving
🩺 Diagnosis
Doctors usually diagnose appendicitis through:
• Careful clinical examination
• Blood tests showing increased white blood cells
• Ultrasound or CT scan of the abdomen
• Urine test to rule out other causes.
Management & Treatment
The main treatment is Appendectomy (surgical removal of the appendix). This can be done by:
🔹 Open surgery
🔹 Laparoscopic surgery (minimally invasive with faster recovery)
Antibiotics and supportive care are also important before and after surgery.
⚠️ Important:
If you or someone you know develops severe pain in the right lower abdomen, seek medical attention immediately. Early treatment can prevent appendix rupture and life-threatening infection.
