Over the last two decades, India has made significant progress in reducing maternal and newborn mortality by more than half. Despite this progress, significant challenges remain, with clear differences from state to state.
In addition, nearly 200,000 lives are lost every year due to time-critical emergencies like cardiac arrest, stroke, and sepsis.
Many of these deaths are preventable, but gaps in trained healthcare personnel, equipment, and putting clinical guidelines into practice continue to challenge the health system.
Across India, Laerdal Global Health, along with our strategic partners, are tackling these challenges by strengthening healthcare education and fostering a culture of simulation for teaching and learning.
By scaling proven interventions like the Safer Births Bundle of Care and supporting the rollout of the WHO’s Basic Emergency Care course, we are seeing that clinical skills gaps are improving. This is leading to an increase in the quality of healthcare education and an improvement in everyday practice where it matters most.
