Our beautiful Ava 🤍✨

What a day 🕊️
Seeing you surrounded by family, friends, laughter and love reminded us of just how incredibly special you are.

You are strong, thoughtful, mature beyond your years, and one of the most generous and kindhearted people we know 🤍 The way you care for others, include people around you, and light up a room makes us endlessly proud to be your parents.

We love you more than words can describe, Ava 💫 Watching you grow into the young woman you are becoming is one of the greatest privileges of our lives.

A huge thank you to everyone who helped make this day so meaningful and unforgettable for both Ava and our family 🌸 We are deeply grateful 🤍

This is an easy way to prep some core muscles and head control towards sitting from about 3-4 months 👶🏼

Place baby on your lap - support at waist - lean baby towards sides + backwards and forwards 👶🏼

The head righting reflex will kick in to help stabilise the eyes horizontally - no matter what plane of movement - so baby will activate core and muscles to right the head 👶🏼

Do a few times a day to improve head and neck control + core muscles 👍🏻

👶🏽 Improve your baby’s sleep 👶🏼

A baby’s random movements in the first months of life are there for a reason 👶 They are even present during sleep - sometimes even so marked that baby will wake from it 😅

This can be quite frustrating for parents, but rest assured; it’s totally normal and important for baby’s development 👼

The brain will sometimes continue to physically self stimulate even when sleeping - especially if the day has been spent without a lot of variation in stimulation - this is when the random movements can be become a bit too much 🧠

This is why we promote a lot of free movement for babies from early on and to keep them unrestricted or away from restrictive devices as much as possible 😊

Sensory stimulation through touch, sound, play, cuddles, song etc. is also amazing to build your child’s brain 🧠

What’s even cooler is that if the day has brought a lot of variation in stimuli then the brain will have loads of neural connections to solidify and categorise during sleep - often resulting in less random movements and better sleep 😴

Try this at home and let us know how you get on 🥰

A baby at 4 weeks old who pushes up high in tummytime, pulls head waaaay back when sidelying and arches back when carried is NOT neck strength 👇🏼

It’s tension. Usually from a tough birth, but not necessarily 👶🏼

These babies have some common signs of discomfort & dysfunction:

- Breastfeeding issues (weak latch, mom pain on nursing, often one side better than the other)
- Dislike of laying flat on floor or in stroller
- Wants to be carried at all times (nearly)
- Frequent waking
- May even roll from front to back the first couple of months (not a good thing) due to weight of head
- Spit ups and/or reflux/silent reflux
- Agitation - typical «colic» signs

Removing tension through bodywork and exercises will help these babies a lot 👍🏻

If this is you reach out to your local pediatric Chiropractor, Physiotherapist or similar 💛

If your baby is pulling backwards arching the spine a lot whilst also seemingly being in discomfort it may be a sign of tension 👶🏼

We see this quite a bit in clinic, and if this is your baby it may be worth while getting a checkup with a paediatric Chiropractor, Physio or Osteopath to rule out any issues 👍🏻

Mostly we see this after facial presentation birth or any of Ventouse, forceps or C-section plus tongue tied babies ❤️ Often these babies will protest being put flat in a stroller & especially being in a car seat 💺

Here are some of the home exercises you can do to release tension in the back & strengthen in the front (abs & deep neck flexors) 🤩

This can help alleviate some of the discomfort for baby if there’s true muscular & spinal tension - but as always we recommend seeing a local therapist to ensure your baby gets a specified check-up 🙏🏼

Those “random” newborn movements?

They’re not random.

They’re how your baby:

• builds early strength
• creates brain-body connections
• starts integrating reflexes
• prepares for everything that comes next

Nothing about it is accidental.

This is the foundation for rolling, crawling, sitting and walking.

Milestones is all about being early. The sooner the better! Or is it??
Absolutely not. Many parents believe it is but the important thing is the process of learning and maturing 🧠 The timing is important to show us that your baby is maturing as expected and it can help us intervene if needed - but being fast is not the goal! Comment «MILESTONES» to get more clarity from our 0-12 month free gross motor guide 👶🏼💛
