【एक सुन्दर सुरुवात संगको न्यानो उपहार】
सानो उमेरमा प्रसव पीडालाई पार गर्दै पहिलो पटक आमा बनेर उनले आमा र बच्चाको अमूल्य जीवनको सुखद सुरुवात गरिन्। ।अस्पतालको सुत्केरी कक्षमा एक आमाको अनुहारमा थकान भन्दा बढी खुसी झल्किरहेको थियो। पहिलो पटक आफ्नो सन्तानलाई काखमा च्यापेको त्यो क्षण उनको जीवनकै अविस्मरणीय सुरुवात थियो।
पोखरा महानगरपालिका र कोमागाने नगरबीचको वर्षौंदेखिको मित्रताको प्रतीक बनेको मात.शिशु मितेरी पादेशिक अस्पताल भित्र त्यही क्षण उनको हातमा अर्को विशेष उपहार पनि आइपुग्यो हातले बुनेको न्यानो टोपी।
जापानको कोमागाने नगरका जेष्ठ नागरिकहरुले आफ्नै हातले बुनेको त्यो सानो टोपीले केवल शिशुको शिर मात्र न्यानो बनाएन, दुई देशका नागरिकबीचको आत्मीयता, मायाको सन्देश र नयाँ जेनेरेसन पुस्तासंगको पहिचान पनि बोकेको थियो।
अस्पतालका नर्सहरूले पनि उनीप्रति उत्तिकै स्नेह र समर्पणका साथ सेवा गरे। पहिलो पटक स्तनपान गराउन सहज होस् भनेर केवाटे ब्रेस्ट मसाज सेवा प्रदान गरियो, साथै स्तनको स्याहार र सफल स्तनपान सम्बन्धी परामर्श दिइयो। यसले आमामा आत्मविश्वास थप्यो र नवजात शिशुले आफ्नो जीवनको सबैभन्दा महत्वपूर्ण उपहारआमाको दूध सुरक्षित रूपमा प्राप्त गर्न सक्यो।
उपहारमा प्राप्त न्यानो टोपी लगाएको आफ्नो शिशुलाई काखमा राखेर ती आमा मुस्कुराइरहेकी थिइन्। त्यो मुस्कानमा मातृत्वको आनन्द, स्वास्थ्यकर्मीको समर्पण र दुई देशबीचको मित्रताको सुन्दर कथा एकसाथ झल्किरहेको थियो।
विश्व स्तनपान सप्ताह (अगस्ट १–७) को अवसरमा यस्तो एउटा दृश्यले पूर्ण स्तनपानको महत्व, उचित सेवा र हेरचाहको शक्ति र प्रत्येक शिशुले स्वस्थ जीवनको सुरुवात पाउनुपर्छ भन्ने सन्देशलाई अझ जीवन्त बनाएको छ।
यस्ता प्रेरणादायी क्षणहरूले स्वास्थ्य सेवा केवल उपचार मात्र नभई माया, विश्वास र आशाको यात्रा पनि हो भन्ने अनुभूति गराउँछन्।

【A warm gift for a beautiful beginning】
She became a mother for the first time, overcoming the pain of childbirth and beginning a precious new chapter in the lives of both mother and child.
In the maternity ward, her face showed more joy than fatigue. The moment she held her baby in her arms for the first time was an unforgettable beginning in her life.
At that moment, another special gift was placed in her hands at Matri Shishu Miteri Provincial Hospital, a hospital that symbolizes the long-standing friendship between Pokhara Metropolitan City and Komagane City. It was a warm hand-knitted hat made by elderly volunteers in Komagane, Japan.
The small hat not only warmed the baby’s head, but also carried a message of affection, friendship, and connection between the citizens of the two countries and the next generation.
The nurses at the hospital also cared for her with warmth and dedication. To help her begin breastfeeding smoothly, she received KBM breast care, along with guidance on breast care and successful breastfeeding. This helped increase the mother’s confidence and allowed the newborn to safely receive the most important gift in life: breast milk.
The mother smiled as she held her baby wearing the warm hat she had received as a gift. In that smile, we could see the joy of motherhood, the dedication of health workers, and the beautiful story of friendship between the two countries.
On the occasion of World Breastfeeding Week, August 1–7, this scene brought to life an important message: the value of exclusive breastfeeding, the power of proper care and support, and the hope that every baby can have a healthy start in life.
Such inspiring moments remind us that health care is not only about treatment. It is also a journey of love, trust, and hope.

【स्तनपानमा समस्या छ? मातृ शिशु मितेरी अस्पताल BCCU मा परामर्श र उपचार सेवा उपलब्ध -विश्व स्तनपान सप्ताह (१–७ अगस्ट)-】

हरेक वर्ष अगस्ट १ देखि ७ गतेसम्म विश्व स्तनपान सप्ताह मनाइन्छ। यस हप्ताको अवधिमा, हामी सबै आमाहरू र परिवारहरूलाई स्तनपानको महत्त्वको बारेमा जागरूकता जगाउन प्रोत्साहित गर्दछौं। मातृ शिशु मितेरी अस्पतालमा, स्तन हेरचाह र परामर्श एकाइ (BCCU) ले वर्षभरि स्तनपान सहयोग र स्तन हेरचाह सेवाहरू प्रदान गर्दछ ।
अस्पतालमा सञ्चालित स्तन स्याहार तथा परामर्श इकाइ (Breast Care Counselling Unit – BCCU) मार्फत अनुभवी स्वास्थ्यकर्मीबाट स्तन स्याहार, स्तनपान परामर्श तथा KBM मसाज विधि द्वारा आवश्यक उपचार सेवा उपलब्ध छ।
निम्न समस्याहरूको परामर्श तथा उपचार उपलब्ध छ:
• स्तनपान गराउन कठिनाइ हुनु
• दूध कम आउनु वा पर्याप्त नहुनु
• स्तन धेरै भरिनु (Breast Engorgement)

【Having Breastfeeding Difficulties? Consultation and Care Are Available at Matri Shishu Miteri Hospital BCCU -World Breastfeeding Week (1–7 August)- 】
World Breastfeeding Week is celebrated every year from 1 to 7 August. During this week, we encourage all mothers and families to raise awareness of the importance of breastfeeding. At Matri Shishu Miteri Hospital, the Breast Care and Counselling Unit (BCCU) provides breastfeeding support and breast care services throughout the year.
Breast care, breastfeeding counseling and necessary treatment services through KBM massage method are available from experienced health workers through the Breast Care Counseling Unit (BCCU) run by the hospital.
Consultation and treatment of the following problems are available:
• Difficulty in breastfeeding
• Low or insufficient milk supply
• Breast engorgement
• Ni**le pain, cracking or soreness
• Blocked milk duct
• Lump or swelling in the breast
• Breast infection (Mastitis) problems
• Baby not sucking the breast properly or latching problems
• Other complications and consultation related to breastfeeding
Breast milk is the first, complete and best food for the baby.

पिडा हराउँदाको खुसी
स्तन हेरचाह र परामर्श एकाइ (BCCU) केवल सुत्केरी अवस्थाका आमाहरुकालागि मात्र होईन यो त ती सवै आमाहरुकालागि हो जो स्तनपानको यात्रामा रहेका छन् ।
आज हामी एक आमाको कथा साझा गर्दैछौ जसले आफ्नो ८ महिनाको वच्चालाई स्तनपान गराउँदै गर्दा मातृशिशु मितेरी प्रादेशिक अस्पताल भित्र रहेको स्तन हेरचाह र परामर्श एकाइ (BCCU) को भ्रमण गर्न पुगिन् ।
म २८ वर्षकी आमा हुँ र यो मेरो दोस्रो सन्तान हो। मेरो ८ महिनाको बच्चालाई स्तनपान गराइरहेको बेला हिजोदेखि अचानक स्तनमा धेरै दुखाइ हुन थाल्यो। छाम्दा कडा भएको महसुस हुन्थ्यो र बच्चाले दूध तान्दा असह्य पीडा हुन्थ्यो।
म उपचारका लागि मातृशिशु मितेरी प्रादेशिक अस्पताल गएँ। महिला चिकित्सकले जाँच गरेपछि मलाई स्तन हेरचाह र परामर्श एकाइ (BCCU) मा पठाउनुभयो। त्यहाँ तातो पानीले सेकाइ र मसाज गरियो। त्यसपछि मेरो दूध आउने प्वाल बन्द भएको रहेछ भन्ने थाहा भयो। मसाजपछि त्यो खुल्यो र दूध सहज रूपमा आउन थाल्यो। त्यससँगै मेरो पीडा पनि धेरै कम भयो।
घर फर्किएपछि अस्पतालकी सिस्टरले सिकाएअनुसार नियमित रूपमा मसाज गर्दै बच्चालाई राम्रोसँग स्तनपान गराएँ र आवश्यक परे दूध दुने पनि गरेँ। तीन दिनभित्र नै मेरो समस्या पूर्ण रूपमा निको भयो।
समयमै सही उपचार, उचित सल्लाह र हेरचाह प्रदान गरी शल्यक्रिया (अपरेसन) गर्नुपर्ने अवस्थाबाट जोगाइदिनुभएकोमा मातृ शिशु अस्पतालका सम्पूर्ण चिकित्सक तथा नर्सिङ टोलीप्रति हार्दिक धन्यवाद व्यक्त गर्दछु। उहाँहरूको सेवाप्रति म अत्यन्त आभारी छु।
तपाईंको बच्चा जतिसुकै ठूलो भए पनि, तपाईंले एक्लै संघर्ष गर्नुपर्दैन। यदि स्तनपान पीडादायी वा चिन्ताजनक हुन्छ भने, कृपया BCCU मा जानुहोस्। र यदि तपाईंलाई सहयोग चाहिने आमा थाहा छ भने, कृपया यो सन्देश उनीसँग साझा गर्नुहोस्।

The Joy of Being Free from Pain
The Breast Care and Counselling Unit (BCCU) is here for every breastfeeding mother,not only in the days after childbirth, but throughout her breastfeeding journey.
Today, we are sharing the story of a mother who visited the BCCU when her baby was 8 months old.
I am a 28-year-old mother, and this is my second child.While breastfeeding my 8-month-old baby, I suddenly developed severe breast pain yesterday. My breasts felt hard, and breastfeeding became very painful.
I went to Matri Shishu Miteri Provincial Hospital for treatment. After examining me, the doctor referred me to the Breast Care Counselling Unit (BCCU). There, warm compresses were applied, and I received breast care using the KBM method. The nurse found that one of my milk ducts was blocked. After the breast care, the blockage was relieved, my milk flowed more easily, and the pain was greatly reduced.
After returning home, I continued the breast care as instructed by the hospital nurse. I breastfed my baby properly and expressed milk whenever necessary. Within three days, my problem was completely resolved.
I sincerely thank all the doctors and nurses at Matri Shishu Miteri Provincial Hospital for their timely care, kind guidance, and dedicated support. I am truly grateful for their service.
No matter how old your baby is, you don't have to struggle alone. If breastfeeding becomes painful or worrying, please visit the BCCU. And if you know a mother who may need support, please share this message with her.

In summer 2025, students who joined the Komagane Study Tour made "breast models" and handmade bibs for newborns.

In June 2026, these were put to use during trainings and care sessions at Matrishishu Miteri Hospital in Pokhara and Paropakar Maternity and Women's Hospital in Kathmandu.

This story has now been featured on the website of Ochanomizu University's Global Collaboration and Education Development Center.

We are truly grateful that the students' warm thoughts reached the community in Nepal, and that this journey has now become an article.

ネパール交流市民の会第28回総会では、今年3月に急逝されたポカラ市元市長 クリシュナ・タパ氏を偲び、そのご功績を紹介した後、出席者全員で黙とうを捧げました。

クリシュナ・タパ氏は、ポカラ市と駒ヶ根市の友好交流を長年支え、両市の信頼関係の礎を築かれた、私たちにとって大変大きな存在でした。

その志を受け継ぎ、これからは私たち、そしてポカラ駒ヶ根友好協会の皆さんとともに、これまで以上に強く、温かな交流を育んでいきたいと考えています。
改めまして、クリシュナ・タパ氏のご冥福を心よりお祈り申し上げます。

With deep respect and gratitude, we remembered the late Mr. Krishna Thapa, former Mayor of Pokhara, at the 28th General Assembly of the Citizens Association for Nepal Exchange.

After reflecting on his remarkable contributions, all participants observed a moment of silence in his memory.

Mr. Thapa was a truly remarkable leader who devoted many years to strengthening the friendship between Pokhara and Komagane. His vision and dedication laid the foundation for the strong relationship our two cities share today.

Inspired by his legacy, we will continue to deepen our friendship and cooperation together with the members of the Pokhara–Komagane Friendship Association.

May Mr. Krishna Thapa rest in peace. His legacy will continue to live on in our hearts.

ネパール交流市民の会の第28回総会＆現地渡航報告会　(7月3日）
「手に手を取って伝えること」の大切さを、あらためて感じたネパール研修。
報告会では、川手幸子さん（助産師）から、ネパールの医療者たちが着実に力をつけている様子が報告されました。
また、今回のネパール研修が、会員、現地のスタッフ、日本の専門家、事務局、ご寄付をくださる方々、そして応援してくださる皆さんの力が重なって実現したことへのお礼を伝える機会ともなりました。
関わる人みんなで育ててきた歩み。

”The 28th General Assembly & Training Report Session of the CIANE " July 3

This Nepal training reminded us once again of the importance of “teaching hand in hand.”

At the report session, midwife Sachiko Kawate san shared how the local nurses/ midwives in Nepal are steadily developing their skills and confidence.

It was also an opportunity to express our gratitude, as this training was made possible through the combined efforts of the CIANE members, local staff in Nepal, Japanese experts, our donors, Administrative Staff, and everyone who continues to support us.

This journey has been nurtured by all who have been involved.

Certificate Distribution Program
Matrishishu Miteri Provincial Hospital, Pokhara, presented certificates of appreciation to Ms. Sachiko Kawate, the pioneer of the KBM massage method, and Project Manager Ms. Terumi Kitahara during a special appreciation program.
Hospital Chairperson Mr. Rajendra Bahadur Devkota and Medical Superintendent Dr. Dharma Dev Dhakal presented the certificates of appreciation in the presence of hospital staff.
Ms. Sachiko Kawate came to Pokhara on 26 Jestha 2083 to conduct a one-week Advanced Hand Skill Enhancement Training in KBM breast care for healthcare providers who had previously completed the Basic KBM Breast Care Training. Ms. Terumi Kitahara has also been supporting the implementation of the maternal and child health project at Matri Shishu Miteri Provincial Hospital.
The Follow-up Project for Breast Care Capacity Strengthening, implemented with the support of the Nepal Exchange Citizens' Association of Komagane, Japan, provides support to postpartum mothers experiencing breastfeeding difficulties through the use of KBM breast care techniques, helping babies breastfeed more effectively.
Matri Shishu Miteri Provincial Hospital has established a Breast Care Consultation Unit (BCCU) to promote exclusive breastfeeding and improve the health of mothers and babies. To ensure sustainable, high-quality services, healthcare providers at the hospital have received continuous training in KBM breast care techniques and are now providing quality breast care services to postpartum mothers.
Similarly, Mr. Er. Mahendra Godar, Vice President of the Pokhara Komagane Citizens Friendship Association (PKCAF), presented a letter of appreciation recognizing Ms. Kawate's dedication to traveling from Japan to Nepal to train Nepali healthcare providers in the KBM method. He expressed gratitude for her continued commitment to improving breastfeeding support and maternal and newborn health in Nepal.

In the presence of Ms. Sachiko Kawate from Japan, a six-day refresher and advanced skill enhancement training was conducted for healthcare professionals who had previously completed the Basic Kawate Breast Care (KBM) Training at Paropakar Maternity and Women's Hospital in Kathmandu.

The training was organized in collaboration with the Midwifery Society of Nepal (MIDSON). A total of four MIDSON members participated in the program, and Ms. Kawate received a warm welcome from MIDSON leadership.

Participants reported that the training significantly strengthened their knowledge and practical skills in breast care, breastfeeding support, and the promotion of exclusive breastfeeding.

The program was conducted under the overall management of Ms. Usha Baruwal and Ms. Terumi Kitahara. On behalf of the project, Ms. Rochana Nakarmi served as Training Coordinator, with Ms. Nisha Dhakal serving as Co-Coordinator.

Discussions on future collaboration were attended by MIDSON representatives, including Prof. Pramila Dewan, Dr. Laxmi Tamang, and Mr. Rikesh Munankarmi.

During the program, MIDSON and the Follow-up Project also agreed to further strengthen their collaboration and continue advancing learning and practice related to the KBM Method in Nepal.

We also thank all administrative and support staff whose dedication and hard work made this training possible.

जापानकी सुश्री साचिको कावातेको उपस्थितिमा काठमाडौंस्थित पारोपकार प्रसूति तथा महिला अस्पतालमा यसअघि आधारभूत (KBM) तालिम पूरा गरेका स्वास्थ्यकर्मीहरूका लागि ६ दिने पुनर्ताजगी तथा उन्नत सीप अभिवृद्धि तालिम सञ्चालन गरिएको थियो।

यो तालिम नेपाल मिडवाइफ्री सोसाइटी (MIDSON) सँगको सहकार्यमा आयोजना गरिएको थियो। कार्यक्रममा MIDSON का चार जना सदस्य सहभागी भएका थिए र MIDSON नेतृत्वले सुश्री कावातेलाई हार्दिक स्वागत गरेको थियो।

कार्यक्रमको समग्र व्यवस्थापन सुश्री उषा बरुवाल र सुश्री तेरुमी किताहाराले गर्नुभएको थियो। परियोजनाको तर्फबाट सुश्री रोचना नकर्मीले तालिम संयोजकको भूमिका निर्वाह गर्नुभएको थियो भने सुश्री निशा ढकालले सह–संयोजकको जिम्मेवारी सम्हाल्नुभएको थियो।

भविष्यको सहकार्य सम्बन्धी छलफलमा MIDSON का प्रतिनिधिहरू प्रोफेसर प्रमिला देवान, डा. लक्ष्मी तामाङ तथा श्री रिकेश मुनन्कर्मी सहभागी हुनुभएको थियो।

कार्यक्रमका क्रममा MIDSON र Follow-up Project ले आपसी सहकार्यलाई अझ सुदृढ गर्दै नेपालमा KBM विधिसम्बन्धी अध्ययन, अभ्यास तथा क्षमता विकासलाई निरन्तर अगाडि बढाउने सहमति समेत गरेका छन्।

ネパール活動報告：ガンダキ州保健省トレーニングセンターとの意見交換と感謝の会

今回の渡航中、ガンダキ州保健省のHealth Training Centerを訪問し、母子保健や母乳育児支援の今後について意見交換を行いました。
主にお会いしたのは、2024年の本邦研修に参加されたDr. Binod Bhindu Sharmaさんです。当時はガンダキ州保健省の事務次官を務められていましたが、現在は州の保健人材育成を統括する立場で活躍されています。

Dr. Binodさんは、乳房ケアの重要性をガンダキ州全体に広げたいという強い思いを持ち、日本から帰国後には州予算を確保し、当プロジェクトとの協働により取り組みを進めてこられました。今回の訪問では、現場で研修や実践の調整を担っているDristi Poudelさんにも川手幸子さんを紹介することができ、今後につながる貴重な機会となりました。

また、ガンダキ州保健省主催による感謝の会も開催していただきました。その席では、川手幸子さん、オンラインで粘り強く指導を続けてくださっている竹原泰世さん、そして長年にわたり事業の基盤を築いてきた米田恭子さんへの感謝の言葉が何度も述べられました。

さらに、川手さんの再訪を心から歓迎するとともに、「今後さらに州内の病院へ乳房ケアを広げていきたい」という熱い思いも語られました。

感謝の会でのスピーチの中で、Dr. Binodさんは次のように語られました。
「私たちは当初、新しい技術を学んでいると思っていました。しかし、それは単なる技術ではなく、産後という人生の大切な時期にある母親たちに安心、自信、そして安らぎをもたらす方法であることに気づきました。」

また、「ネパールでは多くの母親たちが乳房の痛みや張り、授乳の困難、そして精神的な苦痛に悩んでいます。こうした“語られることの少ない問題（untold problems）”に寄り添い、支援できるようになったことは大きな変化でした。」
という言葉も印象的でした。

現地の行政機関が主体となり、母子保健サービスの向上に取り組もうとしている姿に、大きな希望を感じた訪問となりました。

Nepal Activity Update: Meeting with Gandaki Provincial Health Training Center and Appreciation Program

We had the opportunity to visit the Health Training Center under the Ministry of Health, Gandaki Province.
We were pleased to meet Dr. Binod Bhindu Sharma sir, who participated in the Japan training program in 2024. He is leading health workforce development and training initiatives across the province.

After returning from Japan, Dr. Binod sir became a strong advocate for expanding breast care services throughout Gandaki Province. He played a key role in securing provincial funding, and since then, several training programs and related activities have been implemented in collaboration with our project. This visit also provided a valuable opportunity for Sachiko Kawate san to meet Dristi Poudel san, who has been coordinating training and field implementation activities.

They also organized a special appreciation program during our visit. At the event, heartfelt gratitude was expressed to Sachiko Kawate san, Yasuyo Takehara san, who continues to provide dedicated online mentoring, and Kyoko Yoneda san, who has played one of central roles in building the foundation of the project.

Participants warmly welcomed Kawate san’s return to Nepal and shared their strong commitment to expanding breast care services to more hospitals across the province.

During his speech, Dr. Binod sir reflected on the impact of the initiative, saying:

"At first, we believed we were simply learning a new technique. Over time, however, we realized that it was much more than a technique. It is an approach that brings confidence, comfort, and peace of mind to mothers during one of the most important periods of their lives—the postpartum period."

He also emphasized that:

"In Nepal, many mothers suffer from breast pain, breast engorgement, breastfeeding difficulties, and emotional distress. Being able to support these often untold problems has brought about a significant change."

It was inspiring to see local government institutions taking ownership and leadership in advancing maternal and child health services. The visit gave us great hope for the future sustainability and expansion of these efforts.

中畑英樹先生のご逝去に接し、深い悲しみとともに、心より哀悼の意を表します。

2023年末に中畑内科消化器科クリニックの中畑先生より賜った多大なるご寄付により、私たちはネパールでの母子保健の取り組みを大きく前に進めることができました。。
そのおかげで、日本の専門家をネパールに派遣し、ネパールの医療者を日本に迎えることができ、乳房ケアの取り組みは確かな一歩を踏み出すことができたのです。

いつか先生にネパールの現場をご覧いただきたいと願っておりましたが、その後ご病気のことを伺い、大変心配をしていました。
ネパールの仲間たちも、先生のことを思いながら心を込めて日本語を交えてカードをつくってくれました。遠く離れていても、先生の存在は多くの人の心に届いていました。

病気と闘っておられる中でも、奥様が医療衛生用品など大変多くの貴重なものを寄贈してくださり、3月の業務渡航の際には、その一部をポカラの母子友好病院へ届けることができました。（今後の渡航でまた持参します）
使い捨ての手袋さえ洗って繰り返し使っている現場にとって、その一つ一つは大変有難いものです。

現地からは、多くの喜びと感謝の声が届いています。
先生と奥様からいただいたご厚意は、確かに現地の母親と赤ちゃん、そして医療者の力となり、生き続けていきます。

先生と奥様が届けてくださった思いに、心から感謝しています。
その思いをこれからも大切に、活動を続けていきます。
