A workshop on Cerebral Palsy (CP) was successfully conducted under the theme “Cerebral Plays: From Early Detection to Lifelong Care.” Organised by our Paediatric Neurology Chapter on August 8th in Kathmandu. The workshop aimed to strengthen knowledge and awareness regarding the early identification, assessment, management, rehabilitation, and lifelong care of individuals with cerebral palsy. The program was attended by a multidisciplinary team of total of 80 participants including paediatricians, residents, physiotherapists, speech and language pathologists, and occupational therapists. The workshop highlighted the importance of collaborative care in managing cerebral palsy and emphasized the significance of early detection of developmental delays and motor difficulties, followed by timely assessment and intervention. Participants discussed the role of physiotherapy in improving mobility, posture, balance, strength, and functional movement; occupational therapy in promoting independence in activities of daily living, fine motor skills, sensory needs, and participation; and speech and language therapy in addressing communication, feeding, swallowing, and related challenges.
The workshop encouraged multidisciplinary collaboration among rehabilitation professionals and reinforced the importance of coordinated, family-centered care. Interactive discussions and professional exchange helped participants gain a broader understanding of the challenges faced by individuals with cerebral palsy and the importance of addressing their physical, communication, functional, and social needs.
Overall, the workshop was an enriching learning and knowledge-sharing experience that reinforced the message that early recognition, timely intervention, coordinated rehabilitation, and lifelong care are essential for maximizing the potential and quality of life of individuals with cerebral palsy.
