A Chinese retail tycoon looked at his 8,300 employees and said something that broke the internet and honestly it's hard to argue with the logic.

"Everyone has times when they're not happy. So if you're not happy, do not come to work."

Yu D**glai, founder and chairman of Pang D**g Lai, a retail chain in China's Henan Province, introduced what he calls "unhappy leaves." Ten additional discretionary days off per year on top of existing annual leave that employees can take any time they feel mentally or emotionally unwell.

And here's the part that really made people stop scrolling.

Management CANNOT deny these requests. Refusing an unhappy leave request is classified as a company policy VIOLATION.

Here's the full picture of what working at Pang D**g Lai actually looks like:

- Seven-hour daily shifts maximum
- All weekends off
- 30 to 40 days of PAID annual leave plus 5 days for Lunar New Year
- 10 additional unhappy leave days on top of all of that
- A janitor with sufficient professional skill certification can earn up to $70,000 a year
- Average monthly salary runs around $1,250, well above local retail standards

The company has 8,300 employees and more than 30 chain stores across Henan Province. And while that might sound small on a global scale, Pang D**g Lai has become something of a legend in Chinese retail.

Major chains including Walmart and Alibaba's retail operations have reportedly sent teams to study the Pang D**g Lai model.

Yu D**glai isn't being charitable. He's being strategic. He figured out that a rested, emotionally stable workforce produces better outcomes than a ground-down one and built his entire company around that premise.

Most American businesses still haven't figured that out.
