Sushma Koirala Memorial Hospital Since 1997, we have pioneered burn, plastic, and reconstructive surgery in Nepal.

Our institution integrates world-class medical expertise with community outreach and donor-supported programs to provide vulnerable patients a second chance at life. Sushma Koirala Memorial (SKM) Hospital, is a specialized center for burn and reconstructive surgery treating:
- Congenital deformities of face and limbs
- Cleft lip and palate repair
- Severe burns and post burn contractures
- Chronic or defect wounds
- Osteomyelitis
- Skin and soft tissue tumors
- All types of limb injuries- tendon,nerve &
vascular injuries
- Scar corrections
- Dental check up & treatment
SKM Hospital has extended following Speciality clinics:
1. Breast clinic: Everyday (8-2PM); for breast cancer screening, breast mass evaluation, corrective breast surgery (Augmentation and Reduction), breast reconstruction after cancer surgery
2. Orthopaedics & Trauma surgery: Everyday(8- 2PM) Outpatient clinic for orthopedics & round the clock trauma surgery services.Back pain,neck pain and knee pain evaluation and physiotherapy services.
3. Gynecology Clinic: Once a week (Thursday 1-3PM) Outpatient clinic for gynecological problems,antenatal check-up, cervical cancer screening, hysterectomy, uterine prolapse and fistula surgeries.
4. Psychiatry & Mental health:(Every Sunday,2-4PM) outpatient clinic for psychiatry & allied health to evaluate and treat related conditions.
5. Comprehensive Hand clinic:(Everyday 8-2PM) clinic for simple and complex hand problems, hand trauma, reconstructive hand surgeries, brachial plexus and peripheral nerve injuries, wrist & elbow arthroscopy, congenital hand conditions, post burn hand contractures.

Today marked the successful completion of our Primary Burn Care Management Training program.
The final day focused on critical modules:
✅ Pain Management in Burns
✅ Safe Transfer of Burn Patients
✅ Escharotomy
✅ Psychological Aspects of Burn Care
Participants engaged in a comprehensive review of the entire module, followed by a post-training assessment and valuable feedback sessions that reflected strong learning outcomes and high engagement.
The program concluded with a formal closing ceremony and certificate presentation, held in the gracious presence of Dr. Prakash Prasad Shah, Director of NHTC. His presence added great value and inspiration to the occasion.
We extend our heartfelt gratitude to the National Health Training Center (NHTC) for their continuous support, guidance, and partnership in strengthening burn care capacity.
This is not the end — it is a renewed commitment. We look forward to organizing more impactful trainings in the future and continuing our shared mission of improving burn care services across the country.

Today’s focus: Documentation & Communication – essential pillars for quality burn care.
Participants deepened their skills in:
• Completing the Burn Injury Documentation Form accurately and thoroughly
• Applying the SPIKES protocol for sensitive and structured communication
• Using the SBAR modality for clear, effective handovers
• Following the Telemedicine Checklist to support remote consultations and referrals

The fourth day of the Primary Burn Care Management Training, organized by the National Health Training Center, Kathmandu, at Sushma Koirala Memorial Hospital, was completed successfully.
Today’s focus was on Nutrition, Dressing, and Rehabilitation — with special emphasis on the vital roles of proper burn nutrition in healing and recovery, and early rehabilitation to prevent contractures and restore function. Trainees actively participated in making tools to correct contractures, a key rehabilitation skill.

Third day of Primary Burn Care Management Training has been conducted at the NHTC-accredited training site, Sushma Koirala Memorial Hospital (SKMH).
Sushma Koirala Memorial Hospital, the first dedicated burn hospital in the country, remains committed to providing quality burn care treatment and to the capacity building of human resources essential for effective burn management.
As the 3rd day went around with knowledge about the various types of burns, Trainees were accompanied in OT for the brief demonstration about burn treatment ( surgery) lead by Prof. Dr. Ishwar lohani, Dr. Raju Bhandari and team.
