Celebrating Our HCAs | Meet Sheryl Dono

This HCA Day, we’re proud to recognise Sheryl Dono, who was overwhelmingly nominated by her colleagues and residents for the positive contribution she makes every day.

Sheryl brings genuine warmth, dedication and positivity to her role. She is known for always being willing to lend a helping hand, going above and beyond what is expected, sharing her knowledge with others, and bringing a smile that can brighten a resident’s day.

Sheryl’s journey in caregiving began before joining our Sound Care whānau, and she continues to invest in her professional development. She is currently completing her New Zealand Certificate in Health and Wellbeing Level 4, with the encouragement and support of her team.

For us, that is what HCA Day is all about recognising people who care deeply for our residents, support those around them, continue to learn and grow, and make a difference through the work they do every day.

Sheryl, thank you for the compassion, energy and genuine care you bring to our residents and your team. We are very proud to celebrate you this HCA Day.

Sometimes one activity can bring back a whole collection of memories.

There were plenty of stories shared at Athenree Life this past month. During our 4th of July kōrero, resident Sandra shared memories of growing up in America, which soon had others asking questions and joining the conversation with stories of their own.

And even something as simple as Ice Cream Day got everyone reminiscing about family gatherings, favourite flavours and younger days. One resident, Gloria had a few stories to tell from her time owning a dairy! With nine flavours to choose from, there was plenty of tasting and chatting too.

Matariki brought more learning, waiata and poi, while our Commonwealth Games had residents encouraging each other and giving different games a go.

A month of trying, learning, reminiscing and sharing a few good stories along the way. That's life at Athenree Life. 💙

Every month brings new stories to share.

June gave our residents plenty to talk about at Athenree Life. From learning about King Charles and the Royal Family to discovering more about Filipino culture, reflecting on World Elder Abuse Awareness Day, and celebrating together at our Midwinter Party, there was always something new to enjoy and discuss.

One of the nicest parts of the month was seeing residents and staff sharing stories, asking questions, laughing together, and enjoying each other's company.

It's these everyday moments that continue to make Athenree Life feel like home.

Sharing with you some highlights from the month of May at Athenree Life.

A good conversation, a few laughs, and stories shared over a cuppa can brighten any day.

From Mother's Day and Nurses Day to World Bee Day, Space Day, and International Everest Day, there was always something to talk about, something new to discover, and someone to enjoy it with.

Whether reminiscing, singing along to favourite songs, or simply catching up with friends, it's often these simple moments that spark memories, strengthen friendships, and help Athenree Life feel like home.
