You might think you’re really in tune with your body… but what if your accuracy is off?

Because interoception (your awareness of what’s happening inside your body) actually has three different dials.

Awareness.

Accuracy.

And appraisal.

Awareness is:
Can I feel what’s happening?

So, “I can feel my heart beating faster.”

Accuracy is:
Am I interpreting that signal correctly?

Maybe your heart rate increased because you just stood up.

And then there’s appraisal:
What meaning am I giving that sensation?

Because you might notice your heart racing and think:

“Something’s wrong. This is dangerous.”

So you can have really high awareness…

but lower accuracy…

and a strong threat appraisal.

And this is important if you tend to worry about your health or bodily sensations.

You don’t necessarily need to become more aware of your body.

You might already be incredibly aware.

Sometimes the work is learning to interpret those signals more accurately and reduce that automatic threat response.

Because a sensation isn’t automatically a danger signal.

And that’s an important part of nervous system retraining.

The most exhausted people I know are the ones nobody worries about.

Worry goes to whoever looks like they’re struggling, and you’ve never let it look like that. You reply, you turn up, you always have room for one more thing. From the outside, that reads as coping.

So nobody checks on you. Why would they? You’re the one who’s fine.

But holding it together and feeling okay are not the same thing, and you’ve got very good at making sure nobody sees the difference.

If you’re the person everyone leans on, this is me asking. How are you, actually?

I know it would be easier if you could just decide to be different. Most of my clients have tried exactly that for years, and they’re definitely not lacking willpower.

The problem isn’t that you’re not trying hard enough. It’s that your mind works from what it already believes about you, and then it keeps looking for evidence to prove those beliefs are true.

If you keep telling yourself, ‘I’m an anxious person,’ your mind starts noticing every moment that seems to confirm it. Then it uses those moments to make the belief feel even more real.

That’s why simply trying to think differently often doesn’t last. The effort fades because the underlying belief hasn’t changed.

The approach I use focuses on identifying where those beliefs may have been learned, helping you re-evaluate what they mean now, and reinforcing new ways of responding over time so different patterns can become more natural.

That’s the work we do together in an RTT session.

If you’ve been stuck in the same pattern for years and you’re ready to explore a different approach, I offer a free 20–30 minute consultation. The link is in my bio.

This is one of the first things I teach inside EMBODY, because it changes how you see yourself.

If small stresses tip you into overwhelm or shutdown, it doesn’t mean you’re weak or broken. It means your window is narrow right now. And a narrow window is not a life sentence.

The window widens through repetition, not insight. You can’t think your way into a bigger window. You teach your system, through small body-based practices done often, that it’s safe to stay.

That’s the whole premise of the work I do. Understanding first, then practice, then change.
